Band Reviews - Badness and All Mod Cons at the Piper Club - 29th Dec 03 by Jane Foster
|
|
I went to see Hull's favourite Madness cover band - Badness- at the Piper club on Newland Ave.
They were supported by All Mod Cons, who are a tribute to The Jam.
It was a fantastic night..
I'm old enough to remember Madness quite well, I confess..although at the time I wasn't particularly into them, they were definitely a band for the lads.

|
|
The recent programme Posh Plumbers on BBC1 highlighted the growing number of middle class graduates and professionals turning to plumbing for a living. With a national shortage of 32,000 plumbers, and salaries to match those of a decent job in the capital, the profession is changing.

Going Down - World Music Day at Queens Gardens Saturday 19th June By Jane Foster
|
|
I'd been praying that the rain would hold off for this very special event at Queens Gardens.
Luckily it did for most of the day, and with bands from as far afield as Zimbabwe and Afghanistan,
we all ended up dancing our little socks off..
The day was organised by Chris Smith at the Warren centre, and hats off to
him for putting on a great event

News, Media - Friday 27th April 07 - Protesters Rally To Save Hull Screen By Jane Foster
|
|
Around 50 - 60 protesters turned up at Hull Screen last Friday to protest against the proposals to reduce the screenings to a 3 day week. Many suspect these proposals are the start of plans to close down Hull Screen altogether.
Already it has been moved to the University of Lincoln's George Street campus which is far
from ideal, and which I understand has not

Grounation Hull Jazz Festival 31st July By Jane Foster
|
|
Grounation were the first and the final act to go on today, and they didn't disappoint.
They're a jazz-funk-hip-hop outfit consisting of mainly Hull born musicians.
Apparently they got together specifically for this year's Jazz festival, but they
intend to carry on as a band, they told me.
They've got a good combination

Columns - Something Hot in a Cold Country - Part 1 By Jane Foster
|
|
Well several hot spicy items have caught my attention these last few weeks.
First of all I hear that the great Imran Khan has divorced his wife Jemima.
Well let's face it, a name like Jemima is unforgivable at the best of times...to
me it will always be associated with a rather passive, second rate

Articles - Is Hull really No.1 Crap Town?
|
|
By Jane Foster
As you may have seen in the media, Hull has been voted top of the list of the 50 crappest towns to live in, within the UK.
If I may point out from the beginning, without being pedantic, that Hull is not a town but a city - therefore it is not eligible for this title anyway. But for the sake of argument I'll carry on.

Humour - Is it All Over for the Personal Ads? by Jane Foster
|
|
At one time, joining a dating agency or putting a personal ad in the paper was seen as the mark of desperation.
If anyone did do it, they seldom admitted it - unless they actually ended up meeting someone and staying with them. Then the details of how they met might leak out slowly..
But technology has changed the way people meet and interact, and one of the most common pastimes is..

Poetry - The Seventies and Back Burner Men By Jane Foster

The Seventies were great.
You could bounce on your space hopper.
It was OK to ask a girl
To come sit on your Chopper.

Together they were beautiful
But separate they were shit.

Poetry - Hangin' Around & The You and Me Poem

By Jane Foster
In gangs we trawled the wet streets, alive with possibilities,
The smell of fresh rain and freedom in our noses.
How come they always say that we didn't have much,
When so much open space was ours?
