Dinostar
THIS IS HISTORY
By Daniel Laney
|
In the last two months Hull has welcomed a new addition to its ever growing tourist trade.
Dinostar, which opened on Easter Sunday of this year, should hopefully be welcomed
with open arms by families and budding historians alike and with it being a quick
five minute stroll from The Deep this attraction will provide that little
bit extra for the day out in Hull.
|
|
|
One of the great things about Dinostar is that it's like stepping
into Doctor Who's Tardis, at first it appears to be a bit on the
small side but it soon becomes clear that there is an extensive hands-on exhibition
within these four walls.
For the price of two pounds fifty for adults and child/concession passes at one pound per head,
you can enjoy the terror and sheer breath taking experiences that mother nature provided in
the pre historic world.
|
This exhibition has everything for the dinosaur enthusiasts, from one hundred percent genuine
fossils to the vast impressive collection of moulds and scale models.
When entering the exhibition you feel like your actually starring in the 1993 blockbuster,
Jurassic Park.
|
|
|
At the very beginning of this exhibition you must travel on foot through
a huge archway that bares resemblance to the doomed park's gateway and find yourself
taking giant leaps through the Triassic, Jurassic and cretaceous periods.
With fossils and bones that can be touched and examined this attraction is great
for kids and with its cool white decor that reminds me of what can only be
described as an art gallery, parents and adults can enjoy this very adventurous
tourist attraction.
|
Even if you're not the biggest fan of dinosaurs, Dinostar allows
you to appreciate this ancient period and gives you the feel of what it must have
been like to have witnessed the prehistoric world.
Scare yourself silly and listen to the roars of the T-Rex or boost your
knowledge by watching the interesting videos played throughout the museum that
provides boredom free facts on these gigantic mammals.
|
|
|
Or if you fancy yourself as a bit of a gamer Dinostar gives you
the chance to get interactive and build your own Jurassic Park and this time make no errors!
At the end of this historic tour, you find yourself wishing you were nine again, with a
huge selection of toys and fossils parents should be warned to hide their wallets or
they could end up living in the Jurassic period.
|
If you've visited The Deep and fancy some more then check out Dinostar,
it certainly has the potential to become one of the great Hull tourist attractions.
Open 11am to 5pm Wednesday to Sunday.

Places to Visit - A day by the beach - Bridlington Harbour.
|
|
This Sunday I was spoilt for choice - either to visit a Buddhist centre in "Kilham"
or attend a strawberries and cream party. Opted to go and find Zen so duly arrived
with my offspring (Katie and Oliver) at my friend's house (Cilla) punctually (for
a change) at 11.30.
