The weather soon turned stormy - it rained most of the week end, torrential rain like in the tropics. I made the most of it taking video with my little camera, nothing mind blowing just normal life over there, bus trips, fish markets and visits to Gibraltar. Luckily for me I managed to tune in to 2 unsecured wireless networks in the evening to get online, stay in touch and do my publishing for the website.

The next few days we spent in La Linea and travelled up the Costa Del Sol to Estapona in my sisters rental car. The coastline is crammed with empty unsold apartments; it looks like the housing bubble has truly burst there with offers like 2 for one, should you wish to purchase one. Most of the employment there is in construction and the tourist industry both of which are suffering badly.

As we returned south towards La Linea and Gibraltar the weather improved and the sun finally came out after the passing storm.

Next morning we ventured off to the La Linea Fish market, closed for 2 days as the storm had prevented the fishermen from going to sea. But this morning, the place was teaming with fish and customers. I love La Linea, especially the market. Such a wonderful abundance of food, in one of the poorest places in Europe makes me reconsider what wealth really is.

When you get to experience La Linea it's like a glance into the past, a strong community, real people, a part of old Spain, fairly untouched by tourism, overshadowed by Gibraltar's high media profile. All too soon the holiday was over and I returned to rain back in the UK. Anyway, there's plenty (probably too much) of video should you like a peek at the trip and I would recommend the Youth Hostel in La Linea if you haven't a place to stay.
