Beverley Annual 10k Race and Fun Run
By Mo
|
On a beautiful, sunny Sunday morning May 16th, I headed off to the Beverley Annual 10k run to capture
some photographs and do my best to find a racer who may write about the experience to accompany them.
Clearly as it's me writing this I was unsuccessful, maybe next year, so you'll have to put up
with my scribbling of the day.
|
|
|
It was a blisteringly hot day and I felt quite relieved to think I wasn't running out there
myself as I parked the motor and headed to the Fun Run Race start.
It was packed, teaming with runners lining up and an audience of several hundred.
Andy Tate the Race organiser was busily instructing the runners who obediently formed a
line 60 feet across and maybe 100 bodies deep.
With spare rechargeable batteries and 250 megabytes of space on my Minolta I was up for snapping
to my hearts content, so I went for it.
|
I've added some galleries in case you were there and want
to check out the pleasure of the start line to the pain of the finish.
As a lad cross country running in school was all part of the sports agenda and brings
back memories of the stitch an odd feeling of pain in the hip that seems to be urging
you to stop pull over and take a break
|
|
|
Luckily for me Andy had told me to hang on at the start line long enough to capture the Fun run
winners coming into the finish line and still have time to make my way to the 10K Starting point.
The start of the 10K Race, took place at the base of the beautiful Beverley Minster.
Every time
I see the Minster my mind wanders to the generations of stone masons, builders and labourers who
must have committed their lives to create such a structure. I am always in awe of it and them.
|
As the start time approached there was tension in the air whilst the 1000 entrants squeezed
into position with hardly an inch to spare in the whole street.
I reckon it was the Mayor of Beverley who I took blowing the start hooter and they were off.
Then it was a brisk walk across the railway line into the centre of Beverley market square to the 10K
Finish line. I got the fire brigade chaps to pose (check the gallery) and promise to check the website.
If you guys read this then do get in touch.

Sports Football - Farewell 2 Division 3 By Nicholas Boldock
|
|
It may have taken nineteen years to come along, but Hull City's promotion party was a celebration well worth the wait, and one that will be remembered for a long time yet. The official festivities may not have started until the day of the final league game against Bristol Rovers, but for City fans

Sports - Great Britain v Australia - 15/11/03 KC Stadium
|
|
By Nick Quantrill
Wow, this was sport! I'm not normally a huge fan of rugby league. My interest in playing the game ended when I lost a front tooth in a school 'friendly'. Nowadays, I tend to favour games in which you can predict the bounce of the ball. This game was special though; huge even, and what's more, it was being played in Hull by a Great Britain team

Sports - Take Me to the River - Carp Anglers by Mo
|
|
I am an amateur angler, mostly river fishing as a youth at a time when televisions were black and white. I was 14 maybe, I had my own rods (3) and tackle, a selection of floats, some ledger weights, hooks and line, all kept in our shed alongside my recent purchase of maggots. I always took great pleasure in seeing my four sisters scream and run at the sight of these little yellow ..

Sports - Hull Stingrays vs. Edinburgh Capitals - 9th Feb 2004
|
|
By Matt with Video AVI's of The Game
Hull Stingrays followed up their 2-2 draw with Bracknell the previous night with a 5-1 defeat against Edinburgh Capitals.
If lady luck had been on Hulls side the result could have been very different.
They had a bag full of chances but Kundra did extremely well to keep Hull down to only one goal.
Edinbrough opened the scoring after almost..

Sports Football - The Scarborough Warning By Patrick Henry
|
|
Scarborough F.C. are at home to mighty Chelsea in the 4th round of the FA. Cup on Saturday, January 24th.
Before anybody laughs at the idea of these minnows reaching victory, it should be remembered that we knocked out Chelsea from the League Cup on our ground in 1989.
Then Chelsea had stood top of the whole League, before the Premiership existed, and Scarborough played in Division Four a brief period.
