Sports Rugby
Great Britain v Australia - 15/11/03
by Nick Quantrill
Wow, this was sport! I'm not normally a huge fan of rugby league. My interest in playing the game ended when I lost a front tooth in a school 'friendly'. Nowadays, I tend to favour games in which you can predict the bounce of the ball. This game was special though; huge even, and what's more, it was being played in Hull by a Great Britain team (well, more like an M62 corridor select team) needing a victory to stay alive in the best of three series.
So, off I set to the KC stadium with my mates, a reasonable grasp on the rules of the game and a chip on my shoulder for being born more of a Hull Kingston Rovers supporter than a Hull FC supporter.

The atmosphere inside the stadium was something else with the noise generated louder than LA's on a Saturday night.
The game itself was fantastic. Although concepts like 'offside', 'double movement' and 'head and feed' were clearly constructed to baffle me, even I could tell the Australians were enjoying more than their fair share of decisions from the referee.

When I looked in the programme (not mine of course, £5!!), I noted the referee was in fact Australian. Can you believe it?! No matter, Great Britain valiantly battled against the 14 men of Australia and with the scores level with three minutes to play, they still had a chance of snatching the game. It wasn't to be though as the Australians got the required drop goal and it was game over.
I'm sure you all know that Great Britain lost 23-20, but if not check out our supposedly elders and betters website, The Dull Dreary Fail Website. In a world where they report a Hull City defeat with the Saturday night headline 'Tigers come from behind to win'*, you might just convince yourself Great Britain actually beat the Australians at their own game. If not, there is always Saturday and the even more bizarre game of Rugby Union to come!

Sports - Hull Stingrays vs. Edinburgh Capitals - 22 Nov 2003
By Matt with 2 Video AVI's of Tonight's Game
Hull Stingrays failed to get their first win of the season despite leading 2-1 with only five minutes left in the game. Edinburgh's man of the match Jan Krajicek scored the game-tying goal with 4 minutes and 55 seconds left on the clock. A goal after 13 minutes from Miroslav Droppa had given Edinburgh a first period advantage and Hull didn't... Read more...

Sports - Ice Hockey by Matt
Since as far back as I can remember there has been something in my life. It is impossible to explain but it has always stood by me. Like some people cannot live without drugs, I can not live without ice hockey. For me it started back in 1991. In the previous Season the Seahawks managed to win the division one championship and how I wish I had seen that!

Sports Events - KC Skate Park July 2003
My guess was right, and the glorious evening sunshine brought the skatepark kids out in force. Word had obviously got around about the site as I felt like the Pied Piper - everywhere I turned I was met with tricks, questions and overwhelming enthusiasm.

Sports Events Windfest 2003 at Hunstanton
Another last minute rush and the roads were heaving, but it was well worth the effort as Windfest turned out The Place To Be last weekend. Lots of sponsored riders, designers and general kite celebs made the weekend pretty memorable but which kiting weekends aren't?!

Interviews - Faith & Football: Stuart Elliott speaks.
by Nicholas Boldock
Having heard Elliott interviewed a number of times on Radio Humberside (usually post-match, having scored yet another spectacular headed goal), I knew he would be an articulate and engaging speaker on any subject, even one I would not ordinarily be interested in. And do you know what? He didn't disappoint.

Interviews - still life - A Seriously Serious Band
By Cilla
So, what do reckon to a story about a gasman, a B&Q manager, a policeman, a PC salesman and a graphic designer? Can you think of a connection? Bet you can't. Seemed pretty obscure to me, too, until I met Mike and James. Then it all became clear. still life, the band. Read more...

That's when I met Robert Needham. My first impression was that maybe he was a member of the clergy, presenting me with a warm smile and outstretched hand, smartly dressed, little thin maybe, definitely an interesting looking character.
