The 2005 Trackrod Rally Yorkshire - 8th to 9th October 05 contd
By Matt Rudd
Prev Page

As usual, Kevin Procter's Puma 4x4 sounded amazing. John Bannister went far too deep into the corner but quickly corrected himself. York's Gary Cooper took a very tight line in his Impreza. Tim Pearcey's Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 6 suffered large over steer after hitting the grass bank on the entrance into the corner.

Steve Bannister Banner stopped in the middle of the corner due to a mechanical problem.
This was quite entertaining as spectators and Marshall's were sliding everywhere as they had to push him off the corner. Stefan Davis in the Peugeot 205 Challenge had a large slide during the corner then Keith Turner copied this in his Impreza.

Darren Moon locked up coming into the corner and therefore carried on, forcing him to hit a small piece of banking which was lucky as if he carried on another metre he would have retired in a ditch. A quick bit of reversing and then using the rear wheel drive soon got him back onto the racing line. Then car 183, Belgium's Kurt Vandevenne locked up the Escort Mk1 forcing him to overshoot the hairpin.
Day Two:
For the second day of Rally Yorkshire we went to the Cropton Forest stage. Andrew Apperley, who was driving car 0 was surprisingly fast out of the hairpin right which we were going to stand at for the BRC cars and the Landrover Rally.

The first car was Matt Wilson once again, who was once again very fast and did cover us in mud and stones because this was the first time this stage was used during the event. Due to similar camera problems as day 1, I didn't get a photo as the batteries died.
Higgins was next - luckily the camera was working again. Higgins, like his team mate Matt, was very fast and was sliding slightly on the exit. Steve Perez was slow on the exit just keeping off the grass. Milner once again was fast but on the long straight after the hairpin he was slower as he had less power than the Stobart Focus's.
Barry Clark, in one of the two Stobart Grp N Impreza's, had a wide exit line but that was nothing compared to the sideways action of John Lloyd in the Impreza WRC.

Leon Pesticcio struggled for grip on the exit of the hairpin left in the Suzuki Ignis S1600, however the sound as it went down the straight - brilliant.
Kate Heath once again had another wide line on the exit of the corner but this time she didn't lose any time by stalling the car. The Landrover Rally once again was very entertaining as they went down the straight over the crests after the hairpin.

Then a gap until the Clubman event so we went further into the stage where there was a down hill section, over a bridge and into a 90º right which tightened through a gate.
John Bannister once again was fast but still losing large amounts of time to Tim Pearcey who has described this weekend as one of his best during his rallying career. Captain Steve Magson was very slidy on the exit of the corner as his rear wheel drive Astra struggled to lay down the power.

Ian Jemison had a great racing line in the beautiful Porsche Boxter. Charlie Taylor in his Mk2 Escort was sideways into the corner and had to brake mid-point in the corner to avoid the gate.
Colin Gent's Honda Civic sounded outstanding; to be honest, when I heard it I really didn't expect a car like that to come around the corner.
A few of the remaining Mk2's got a bit close to me at a few points which lead to some good photos. A few people may remember the WRC ITV competition a few months back which you could have the chance to drive in Rally Australia.

Well, James Wesley, the competition winner was out in a Golf GTi and was going quite well, actually. A few more cars remained then the stage was over. I did get a few good photos of the closing cars.
On the way back home we stopped of at Pickering Showground to see what was going on - we ended up seeing the last few Clubman cars again. Jonathan Bean in the old Talbot Sunbeam had an amazing jump at the yump and was pretty much the only one that got some good air, although the closing cars did have a good go.

So, the results:
