The 2005 North Humberside Rally - Saturday 2nd April 05 contd
By Matt Rudd
prev page,

Run 2
We had moved closer to the start of the stage for this run. The corner was a another hairpin left which tightened on the exit through a gate.

The 1400's did have a large range of racing lines. The Ford Ka of Amanda Cornforth did cut the corner by a lot but that slowed her down quite a bit.
Then the Glossop & District Motor Club MK2 Escort of Geoffrey Lloyd did get pretty close to the gate but just managed to avoid hitting it. The larger-engined cars came and there was lots of sideways action - brilliant! And for this run the rallying celeb I stood near was the legend that is Steve Bannister. really makes up for it.
This run unfortunately seemed shorter but still the sideways action was superb. The best probably came from Daniel Beckhams rear wheel drive Ford Fiesta. Dave Greensleeves Hemingway once again made us almost cry with laughter as his ice cream chimes ran around the forest.

Then it was the trek back to the car - but trips into the undergrowth were frequent as the stage was still live.
When we got back to post 9 (the same hairpin where we watched run 1) New Zealander Tony Green had a large overshoot and got stuck on a log for a while which lost him a good 30 seconds. Tony had a fun packed day as on ss1 he ditched the car.

The Results
James Wozencroft and Rob Fagg won the 1400's in their Nova
2nd - George Thomas and Graham Hopewell - Nova
3rd - Mad Malcom Hague and Dave Read - Mk2 Escort

Jon Ingram and Shaun O'Gorman won the main rally in their Focus WRC
2nd - Warren Philliskirk and Ian Windress - Metro 6R4
3rd - Martin Healer and Peter Thomas - Escort WRC
