The 2005 Malton Forest Rally Contd
By Matt Rudd
|
Prev Page
|
|
While this was going on, Jim Ward in the Rover 220 GTI, who was probably looking at
Chris's car more than the road, went off the stage.
He overshot then tried driving along the grass only to find the ditch, however
after lots of wheel spinning from the front wheel drive car he did get out - well, good job!
I wasn't going to push!
Then, yep, a large gap and some modifications to the stage ready for the second
run through the Cropton Stage.
|
|
We ended up positioned at another corner I was at for Rally Yorkshire.
This was about a half mile straight into a tight hairpin right which we were on the exit of.
|
Pat Macarthur, who was 5th through the stage, did brake a bit too late and
had a slight overshoot but didn't lose hardly any time at all.
Charlie Taylor once more was brilliantly sideways along with Escort Mk1 driver, Nick Cook.
Curly Haigh was also very sideways in his Mk1 Escort.
Mark Gamble was doing a lot better this run in his 106.
York's Philip Welch in the VW Golf Kit car was being hunted down rapidly by
Steve Rodgers in his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 6, however it was unlikely
he got past as the end of stage was only about a mile away.
|
|
|
Andrew Thorpe was caught once again on this stage but this time it was Matt Smith in
the Peugeot 205 that was right behind him.
|
|
Pete Barnett, who had been caught and passed on the previous Cropton Stage,
suffered the same fate once again but this time it was Paul Grayson who passed him.
However, while trying to pass, Grayson got very sideways and nearly went off the stage himself.
Simon Singleton, the last car through the stage, got extremely sideways around the hairpin.
|
|
For the third and final run after some more stage modifications, we were positioned
at an artificial chicane which incorporated 3 corners and was breaking up two large straights.
|
All of the first cars were brilliant through this section although Dovavan Jenkin
in the Escort WRC did seem to have a lot of fumes coming out of the car.
Johnson had a minor lock up going into the first of the corners.
Taylor once again was superbly fast through the first and second corners and
was sideways through the third.
|
|
|
Mark Gamble in the Peugeot 106 was surprisingly sideways considering it's a front wheel drive car.
Andy Carter in a Vauxhall Nova was the first victim of the corner.
Coming in to the first of the 3 corners he locked up and overshot the corner but
a quick bit of reversing got him back onto the right track.
|
The Nova of John Lowe was another driver to overshoot the corner slightly;
Paul Grayson, another Nova driver, suffered the same problem.
Simon Wing in his Ford Sierra Cosworth hit the banking on the exit of
the first corner having a slight two wheel moment.
Simon Singleton, the last car, had it worst on the corner.
He was sideways coming into the corner then for at least 10 seconds he was
stuck on the same banking Simon Wing hit.
|
|
By then, as it was the last car, I was on the exit of the 3rd of the corners,
and he did come close to going wide on the corner.
So the results:
|
|
Tony Thompson and Jon Dunning won the event in their Mitsubishi EVO 8
2nd) Barry Johnson and Michael Wilkinson - Mitsubishi EVO 8
3rd) Tim Pearcey and Plug Pulleyn - Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 6
4th) Olly Marshal and Craig Parry - Skoda Octavia WRC E2
5th) Donavan Jenkin and Graham Willcock - Ford Escort WRC

Sports, Football - In Reply To Football Sugar Daddies - Helping or Killing (By Steve Everett) By Gareth Marshall

First of all, I have to concede that I actually agree with Steve about the crux of his article.
There's nothing more satisfying than seeing a team who seemingly represent everything
that is bad about the modern game and who have pretty much had riches and success
handed to them on a plate
