About 10 cars after this on our corner, one of the Mk2 Escorts made modifications to the
track by hitting the bales on the inside of the corner - the marshals soon had the bales
back in position, however.
A large number of cars passed then the final car on run 1 of the stage, Steve Graham in the
MG ZR did exactly the same as David Cobb; he overshot into the bales on the previous corner.

David and Steve were much slower on their second runs as they didn't want to repeat what
happened to them on the first run
|
On the first run through the stage the fastest time was set by Mark Higgins in the main
class of the rally.
Bob Bean set the fastest time in the Historic and Matt Barker set the fastest time in the open rally.
For the second run David Stokes was fastest in the main event, Rob Pilcher was
fastest in the Historic and in the Open Rally, Steve Bannister was fastest.
So the results

After 29 stages Mark Higgins won the event - Escort RS 1800
2nd) 4 mins behind was last year's winner, Stig Blomqvist - Escort Mk2 RS
3rd) Jeremy Easson 3 minutes behind Stig - Escort RS 2000 16V
4th) David Stokes - Escort Mk1 RS 1600
5th) Martin Freestone - Escort Mk2
In the Historic Rally, neither car finished

The Open Rally was won by Steve Bannister with a 13 minute lead - Escort Mk2
2nd) Jason Lepley - Ford Escort MK 2 RS 1800
3rd) 1 min behind Jason was Robert Archer - Escort Mk2
4th) Dave Hemingway - Escort Mk2
5th) Matt Barker - Peugeot 205 GTI
The Clubman Rally which was Monday only was won by Keith Robathan - Escort
Mk2
2nd) Geoff Wilson - Escort Mk2
3rd) Tim Jones - Escort Mk2

The Hamsterley Forest Rally, only in its second year after its cancellation last year for lack of
entries, returned back on the 13th November.
The event itself was all based within the Hamsterley Forest complex, near Bishop Auckland
in County Durham.
The rally attracted a great entry; just slightly over 100 cars had entered which was the events maximum entry.
