British Touring Car Championship - Bell Out to Rebound from Disappointment at Oulton Park Photos By Bob and Steve Knightley

Barrow-upon-Humber racer Martyn Bell found himself in the wars last time out at the wheel of his Arkas Racing with Sunshine.co.uk Astra Sport Hatch in the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship at Snetterton. A heavy accident in the opening race of the weekend hit his chances of a good result as the series resumed racing following the summer break.

Despite being battered and bruised following the 108mph shunt, Martyn battled his way to two finishes in the second and third races of the day and is now ready and raring to go heading to the picturesque Cheshire venue.

'Following the accident at Snetterton, I was feeling a bit battered and bruised but it'll take more than that to hold us down and I'm ready to go this weekend," Martyn said. "If we've had any luck this season, it's been bad luck and we've been involved in other people's accidents on more than one occasion. However, justice will prevail and we live to fight another day.'

Oulton Park has been the scene of some of Bell's strongest performances since joining the BTCC back in 2006. In his debut season he qualified on the second row of the grid in a rain-affected qualifying session and then scored his first top ten finish of the 2007 campaign in the final race last year. Now he will now hope to continue his strong Oulton Park form to add to his championship tally this time around at the wheel of his Tech-speed run car.

'Oulton Park is a very challenging circuit and it is one where I have always gone well in the past,' he said. 'The circuit suits my style and I think it is one that will suit the Astra more with its undulations and curves, as it is the long straights at places like Thruxton and Snetterton where the car tends to struggle.

'The Astra isn't getting any younger but we know what it is capable of and we are working hard to get the best from it. We are working well as a team and if we can stay out of trouble in the opening laps of the races, then I'd love to get a good result for the unsung heroes behind the scenes who work so hard on a race weekend to keep me and Erkut running.

'If I'd put a bet on them fixing the car for the second race at Snetterton following the accident then I'd have lost my house, so I'd love to reward them this weekend for their hard work!'
