I ran in amongst the crowds and snapped shots of George Galloway, Tony Benn and probably other famous folk whose names I didn't know but for some reason were being interviewed by some TV camera crew or other. With this old white beard sporting an embarrassingly small Sony camera, I merrily followed the Press/Media unashamedly poaching sound bite close-ups for thisisull.com readers.

Only once did a police officer confront me for an ID or badge and all I could do is point to my thisisull.com tee shirt with a Tome to Go and Peace Sign 50p badges. In such turmoil, he just smiled and said what the heck! Go for it and back to work I went.

There were an army of police, horses, video cameras, photographers (with a blue sign saying EVIDENCE GATHERER on their backs) and even helicopters flying above. The Greater Manchester Police Force were totally cool, they did a great job and I must say had a far less aggressive attitude towards protestors and that they could probably teach a thing or two on successful crowd control to their fellow officers at the Greater London Metropolitan Force down south. The climax of the march landed us outside the Labour Party conference with people lying on the ground seemingly dead to represent those killed in these illegal wars.

It was a tough call to get that number of people to be still and quiet for two minutes as a mark of respect.

I had found myself a telephone pole to stand the height of a police man above the crowd gathered there. I know that because there were two of them standing directly below me (check the picky). I do love this job sometimes. Blimey, I haven't written so much for the website since I did the Carp Fishing story.. (Take Me to the River - Carp Anglers ) By five o'clock, having squeezed through the crowds, again, to reach the platform front and get shots of the speakers, it was time to depart.

Back at the meeting point I had my last rollup and joined Zak to board our coach home. Then my head just dropped on him. I do want to say thanks again to Martin Dean and all the brave folk from Ull who took time out to stand up for all of us on that beautiful day in Manchester.
