Love Among The Ruins
By Maurice Fairfield

When first you swam into my life
I knew that I was hooked
I knew that I was caught at last
My goose was really cooked

I thought that I'd thrown in my hand
My playing days were over
But now I'm back in the game again
And rolling in the clover
Well I'm not young and nor are you
Our best is all behind us
But now we know just what to do
For happiness to find us

Although I may have lost my fire
My strutting youthful fashion
Your loving lips and hands conspire
To fan my fading passion
And all my ancient skills are there
To make it satisfying
And you'll feel good just as you should
When we are really flying

I may not drive a brand new Porsche
That doesn't make me gloomy
We'll have more fun in my rusty Ford
It's a hell of a lot more roomy
So here's to you my lusty lass
Companion of my nights out
We'll never be bored in that battered Ford
In a lay-by with the lights out

And if I have a heart attack
Or a fatal, final stroke
Just give me a fighter pilot's wave
And find another bloke
An evening chill is setting in
The sun is dipping low
The shadows getting longer
It hasn't far to go

What if the night is closing in?
All joy is not bereft in us
For I've got you and you've got me
And we've still got a few shags left in us
