Song for Anna
By Laura Fry

I first met you in our student house in '93
You seemed to be as quiet as a mouse
Unknown to me when we all learned the Italian for 'it's cold'
That day a lifelong friendship would unfold
You were to marry your childhood boyfriend; it all seemed so sweet
And then there'd be the patter of tiny feet

Anna, they'd decided for you, how your life was going to be
Nothing else was acceptable in small-town Italy
You were destined for so much more with your pitch-perfect soprano voice
But your life was planned; you didn't have a choice
Oh, Anna, you thought you didn't have a choice

Through years of broken hearts, you were my solace on the phone
Others abandoned me but you never left me on my own
You never judged me the way that other people did
You were frustrated, but never once did you flip your lid
You just sang to me and told me that you'd always be there
You gave me cups of tea and comfort
When my life just got too much to bear

Anna, you hum an aria in Brazilian Portuguese
I tremble and say you'll bring the audience to their knees
You were destined for so much more with your pitch-perfect soprano voice
But your life was planned; you didn't have a choice
Oh, Anna, you thought you didn't have a choice

The man you love will walk to the ends of the earth with you
And wish you happiness is the very least that anyone can do

Anna, they'd decided for you, how your life was going to be
Nothing else was acceptable in small-town Italy
You were destined for so much more with your pitch-perfect soprano voice
But your life was planned; you didn't have a choice
Oh, Anna, I'm so pleased you've made your choice

Poetry - Ferriby Foreshore, February Afternoon 2005 By Terry Ireland
The river was calm this afternoon with a low sun
Casting a mile wide buttery playing field dotted
With the white of drifting clouds moving slowly
Across the yellow: to my left rising up I spotted
Two pairs of mallard flying line astern past me,
Splitting into two pairs each to go their own ways.

Poetry - What Have We Done? By The Lazyswede
Solitude echoes through the dark twisted branches of and old wind swept Oak tree.

While the common earth worm is afraid to come to the surface in case the ever Read more...
