Poetry
The Big Issue

By Darren Sant

He stands in the pouring rain,
Ignored again and again,
Biting wind chills his bones,
People rush to their warm homes.

Big Issue he cries,
In vain he cries,
They look up quicken their pace,
Everybody has to be someplace.

Boys laugh at his clothes,
Days like these he loathes,
Ignoring their snide jibes,
Smiling he likens them to pygmy tribes.

Each day a living death,
Wheezing with icy breath,
Despondently he trudges away,
Yet he will be here the next day.
