Alan Raw: A Man of Many Talents (4/4)
By Michelle Dee
(1/4), (2/4), (3/4), (4/4)

Alan cites Echo and the Bunnymen as having had a big influence on him and he tried to emulate their style - I was just a boy, you know!

He also enjoyed Adam and the Ants and the Sex-Gang-Children during his teenage years. The former, I know - my brother was very much into the swashbuckling antics of Adam, the latter sound very wholesome and deserve further investigation.
Also The Cramps and The Meteors were big favourites Alan recalls seeing the Cramps at the City Hall and the lead singer proceeded to play the organ at the back of the hall, followed swiftly by security dragging him off. God that was rock'n'roll that, it had such a good effect on me.
When I asked him to pick the most moving gig experience he struggled then settled for Jah Wobble and the Invaders of the Heart ten years ago at WOMAD, If you were there I'm sure you would agree. On the subject of bands etc., Alan kindly produced a list of his Top 100 tracks which can be seen following the link.
Alan had a bit of a list when he was sixteen of all the things he wanted to do. Not great long term plans just a list of stuff he would try to achieve.

Alan freely admits that some of his plans bore fruit and some did not. What will he do next? Who will he play next on the show? Moreover whom will he help to develop and realise their potential by valuing raw talent?

Music Reviews - Radio in the Raw By Cilla
It's a local radio station. Ok, it's the BBC so with that comes plenty of kudos. But it's BBC Radio Humberside - a place I have to admit that I'd steered clear of, probably since its inception, as a not-cool place to be. In those days there was nothing but Radio 1. And Raw Talent is a local live radio show. It's so local, you could see Alan Raw, it's presenter and Read more...

Music Reviews - 10,000 Things at Jaz Bar - 26th October 04 By Caroline Murphy
So what do the music magazines know about the sensitive side of a group of sexed up 20-some-Things! Their stage show gives anything but that impression, but close-up and personal in the smaller venues of Hull Jaz Bar and Shrewsbury Buttermarket, I can tell a different story. Read more...

Once again tonight, Princes Ave's Linnet and Lark plays host to a evening of live bands. With a stage littered with instruments and a bar crowded with rock n roll types, it looks suitably like the home of what is fast becoming one of the most widely respected and indeed played evenings in Hull. Tonight's headliners Read more...

Music Reviews - Blind Frog Ernie, Blue Sand the Applewhites and Displacements at Piper November23rd By Michelle Dee Photos by Darren Rogers
The Piper club on Newland Avenue has, according to many people, always had something of a volatile reputation. On more than one occasion I have heard reports from people that you always get fights and fracas at the venue. Indeed the last time I went to the Piper there was a very Read more...
