Lloyd: We don't go to see many bands... the only time we get to go see bands is when we're playin with 'em. Which is good, cos we do see shitloads of bands and it opens your eyes. And, like you, we see these bands before the NME and those other magazines jump on it. Like Special Needs, they're in the same boat as us and I remember watchin them and I was like These are fuckin good, these youknowwhatimean, yeah, Special Needs are shit hot.

Who else is playing in your tourbus at the moment?

Lloyd: There's an Iggy Pop song Raw Power that says it all. We should go on-stage to it... Josh: The Others... Lloyd: We can't stop listening to The Cure's first album, the american version, it's like two albums mixed into one. Can't stop listenin to that... Josh: Some new bands like Mardous, we've had that on in the van. Tom: Modern Lovers Lloyd: Definitely Modern Lovers. Josh: Jonathan Richmond

Lloyd: We went to see him in London the other night, he didn't play any Modern Lovers songs, but we weren't bothered

Despite attracting hordes of female fans, The Paddingtons are no boyband. They give the impression, on and off-stage, of being in it for the love of it. And with no shortage of people that love it too, here is their final word... Tom: If you can play in a tiny room and it's rammed it's a fuckin better gig than Brixton Academy. Lloyd: I like the smaller shithole places... I love it when it stinks and you can smell everyone's B.O. and say Give us a fag and they hand 'em to you. Tom: We don't wanna be 200 yards away.
