However, having this appeal to the teen market presents immediate problems for the band when trying to get their fans to come and watch them play live. Many venues in Hull are over 18 only, unless specific nights are organised to cater for the younger kids. The band commented not only on the age restrictions, but also on the total lack of venues for their style of music, citing the Ringside as their main venue for getting gigs in Hull.

They agree that Hull is a good place to get started in a band but to garner the support of influential people and create the kind of buzz and interest to get promoted to the next level is incredibly difficult.

As for the bands immediate goals, it appears touring is number one on their list of priorities. Admittedly, none of the band seemed that interested in the money (for now at least), for them, the buzz of performing and promoting themselves is much more important. As a way of working towards their dream lifestyles, the band sent of demo tapes to some of the industry's most significant record labels, including Vagrant Records. Although no record deals as yet, the positive feedback they received was certainly not disheartening as the band is set to record a 9 track CD at Mayfield Studios in July. The band is definitely willing to work hard to get what they want.

They are quick to slag off manufactured bands, such as Chairman of the Bored for simply being over-publicised, moneymaking stunts. Just in case, like me you have never heard of them, Chairman of the Bored's guitarist and vocalist is Cameron from teen soap Hollyoaks (see, bet you know now).

After catching up with the band, we were lucky enough to sneak in on their weekly rehearsal (needless to say my ears are still recovering). Let me tell you, when these guys rehearse they really do give it some. Although Joe claims he writes all their lyrics, it would seem that not all the band agrees. But whoever is writing these catchy tunes is most certainly doing a great job. The Final Fight demonstrates the bands older than their years approach to song writing. Written with the disastrous New Orleans flood in mind, the lyrics illustrate perfectly the changing world we are living in. Art immitating life is rapidly becoming the norm, especially within the alternative music scene.

Although they have not been on the music scene as Outspoken Silence for long, they have played some great gigs. They are all unanimous in crediting Stockport SU as the firm favourite. They describe how the bouncers had to hold back the crowd and how they had to be escorted of the stage in true rockstar fashion as momentous. According to them, that is what success is all about.

Groupies and dare I say it, orgies. With their next gig at Fenton in Leeds on 28th June, the band can only keep their fingers cross that it will get them that little bit further on the road to success. www.myspace.com/outspokensilence
