I asked him about his other sound making contraptions, the Hornicator and the Mother Superior (these instruments are just as famed as the artist) whether they found their way onto the album. Thomas explained to me that he gave each a fair shot at being on at least one track. He describes his working method as diving in head first and finding out what works in the process. Being first and foremost, a guitar based album - released 4th May on Psycho Teddy/SC Records - it has provoked opposing viewpoints from fans. Thomas quickly asserts that during live shows he has always played a few solely guitar and vocal based songs.

He goes on to talk more about the people who come to his shows describing two groups of polar opposites; the first love the off the wall instruments and just want to hear them, while the second want more of the man and his guitar. I'd like to add a third group to that list - the 'I've been meaning to see Thomas Truax for ages but keep missing him but tonight I made it,' - a line I heard many times that Good Friday evening in the Adelphi. Thomas assures me that this project wasn't an attempt to let the man shine rather than the machine - something I asked of Kid Carpet and his decision to leave out some of the electronic toys on Casio Royale.

Just one question whilst remaining conscious of not doing everything on a pc - 'What does this song need to come alive?'

Asking what was next for Thomas the interview took an unexpected turn. 'It'd be great to record worms,' he said with a serious expression. Reminded of the Aardman Animations series, Creature Comforts and the various animals featured on there, I asked Thomas whether he'd seen the television show. I learned that before music, Thomas was working in stop motion animation. In fact he had been one of the team behind the first four seasons of MTV's Celebrity Death Match show. He had been responsible for moving and making the tiny adjustments to the models, in order to execute the perfect clothes line or bone crunching body slam.

If you haven't seen this show look it up - it was quite a smash on both sides of the pond.

Good news for the fans of Thomas's original compositions. He has half a new album completed. After this tour he will continue developing that and refining his musical family. Mother superior with each new song might get a new piece to create a different sound. Limited edition Blue Velvet version here:
