An Interview With The Five O'Clock Heroes (4/4)
By Michelle Dee
People Gallery By Julia Grant
|
(1/4),
(2/4),
(3/4).
(4/4).
|
I don't think it cultivates very strong artists. What they're doing is, after
six months it's 'oh we don't like you any more' then that artist ends up going on
Big Brother.
Mich: I'll second that. Ok, we'll play the game last, the super group game
|
|
The Rules
Create a band of members live or dead. Gve your band a name and first album/song title.
Minimum requirements lead vox, guitar, bass and drums.
Ant: Erm...the drummer from Toto, what's his name?
Nader: I dunno. Hey Sam (calls over Sam from the table round the corner).
Sam: What?
Ant: Who was the drummer from Toto?
|
Sam: The drummer from Toto? (slightly bemused) Jeff Porcaro.
Ant: And on bass, we'll have Paul Simenon (the Clash).
Nader: Bob Marley as the singer. (Ant agrees).
Mich: Really? Excellent!
Sam: Jimi Hendrix on guitar maybe?
Nader: No way! Carlos Santana on guitar. What would they play? Can you imagine those guys coming into a room together?
|
Mich: What about a name for the band?
Nader: Name of the band? I don't know anything about this, er...
Ant: You think about the name of the band, I'll think about the album title.
Mich: Just give us an idea as to the way your minds are working...
Nader: Yeah, I'm thinking of something sorta like Viva La Revolution or something.
(Ant laughs).
|
|
The whole line-up is kinda political (runs through the line-up) and it's an
ethnically diverse group, so how about The Ethical Mix but put an 'n'
between the 'e' and the 't'. (still enthused about this 'n') You have to
put an 'n' in so it becomes 'enthical' (laughs) Ok, ok (puzzled faces all round).
I'll come up with the song, yeah, a song. (long silence) err...(more silence).
I gotta say this is one of the most challenging questions.
Challenging the creative muscle here... well done.
|
|
(Elliot gets called over. I repeat the game rules and read out the list).
Elliot: Let me see those people...(hands him list). 'Enthical Mix?
(More laughter with Nader still trying to explain this name). How about The Wailers?
Nader: Elliot's just walked away.
Elliot: I just answered it.
Nader: The Wailers? (more laughter).
|
Mich: I think Pete Tosh and Bunny Livingstone might have got that one.
Ant: What about the rest of the band?
Nader: There's Carlos Santana in there.
Ant: What?
Nader: I suppose Bob Marley does kinda overpower everything.
Ant: Yeah.
|
Nader: They're gonna play reggae songs?
Ant: No no.
Nader: It's all right, 'cos Bob Marley's not gonna play guitar, he's just singing.
Ant: He's just singing, not playing guitar, right?
Nader: Well yeah, you've got Carlos Santana going
( strangely intoxicated sounds begin to emanate.) How about you'd think this would be good -
The Foreign, The Foreign Days.(More laughter).
|
|
(We never did get a name for the band).
Mich: Why did you pick Carlos Santana?
(General discussion on the merits of each member). Ok, maybe you can think about the
last two and after we have seen you play we can hook up again.
Nader: Ok, yeah.
Ant: I'll be much better then (laughter).
|
|
Mich: Excellent.
Ant: Was that...are we...
Mich: We'll call the interview closed.
Jules: Oh yeah, press Stop I guess.
(We never did manage to hook up for those last two questions again, but read the review of
their Yo-Yo gig here):

Band Interviews - Sweet n Sour at the Welly Club 22/07/2004 Mad Action Interview By Andy Dykes
|
|
After the show I go backstage. Admittedly it's partly to use the toilet, but also to catch up
with the bands, particularly Mad Action, with whom an interview has been arranged.
The lead singer and guitarist/backing-vocalist from Kasabian are immediately welcoming,
allowing me to use their toilet without fear of violence or harassment.

Almost, a little trimming of the language was called for otherwise my P.C. wont be P.C. anymore,
it's already gone a shade crimson..

Interviews - Faith & Football: Stuart Elliott speaks.
|
|
by Nicholas Boldock
Having heard Elliott interviewed a number of times on Radio Humberside (usually post-match, having scored yet another spectacular headed goal), I knew he would be an articulate and engaging speaker on any subject, even one I would not ordinarily be interested in. And do you know what? He didn't disappoint.

You whiz through it and on the day you can ask:
How many years have you been in

People - FRANK MALARKY CHECKS OUT DAVID BLAINE
|
|
Took time to recover from the glasto festie back in June. Can you do some crazy things down there or can you do some crazy things? Took me a few months to get back down to earth, I can tell you.
Went up to the stone circle on the second day I did...... and then... before I knew it I found myself floating over towards the Pyramid stage and coming to a stop about 300 metres in the air above the main crowd.

smartly dressed, little thin maybe, definitely an interesting looking character.

Interviews Music - About UNDER THE INFLUENCE
By Dean Shakespeare
|
|
Back in the mid 90's, after the Hacienda and Madchester hype had died down, the press pigeon-holed the whole new breed of guitar music coming from the U.K. and labelled it Brit Pop.
At the forefront of DJ's and promoters at that time showing an interest in this music in Hull was DJ Priya (Welly) and the Room nightclub.

So, what do reckon to a story about a gasman, a B&Q manager, a policeman, a PC salesman and a graphic designer? Can you think of a connection? Bet you can't. Seemed pretty obscure to me, too, until I met Mike and James. Then it all became clear. still life, the band.
