An Interview With The Five O'Clock Heroes (3/4)
By Michelle Dee
People Gallery By Julia Grant
|
(1/4),
(2/4),
(3/4).
(4/4).

|
Mich: If you could go on tour to support anybody who would it be?
Nader: I heard Gang Of Four have got back together and are doing shows.
Ant: That was something like two years ago!
Nader: Yeah but I heard they split up after that.
Ant: I'd like to go on tour with The Mystery Jets.
Mich: That'd be cool. Who are you listening to at the moment on the tour bus?
|
Ant: I listen to a bit of the Klaxons, I like that single Golden Skans.
I don't really like any of the other ones. I just kinda like that song.
It's not something I don't really connect with. I listen to a lot of the old stuff,
I've been listening to a lot of Marvin Gaye this week. And Radio 2, a little bit of
Suggs on Virgin.
|
Mich: And you, Nader?
Nader: What am I listening to? Er, we just listened to the
Yeah Yeah Yeahs on the way in to Hull which I think is good actually.
I love the Albert Hammond CD that we talked about before, I really like that.
Ant: You do?
Nader: I really do.
Ant: It's funny, I don't like that CD.
Nader: I listen to it sometimes, I'm very open.
|
|
Mich: Who else do you like?
Nader: I generally read when I'm on tour.
Mich: What are you reading right now?
Nader: I just finished a book called The Toy Collector
by James Gunn. I'm moving on to something called The Kafka.
Ant: He doesn't read okay, he doesn't read!
|
|
Mich: He doesn't? Hey, are you pulling my leg?
What's that Kafka, what's next, War and Peace?
Nader: The book is called Kafka, it isn't by Kafka, dude.
Mich: Oh right.
Nader: I do listen to music a lot though.
Mich: Okay, there seems to be a really strong Hull connection.
You've played here three times and Andrew and Priya got a mention in your album,
so what's that all about?
|
Ant: Well you know, the Paddingtons and going on tour together,
the chance to play the Welly, and that came together really naturally.
Hull's one of those places where we fit in nicely.
Mich: So you actively enjoy playing the Welly?
Ant: Oh yeah, a little too much!
|
Mich: Ok, one more question, then a game... it's a bit of a crappy question and I don't think I should have left it 'til last, but anyway - the whole download music thing?
Ant: It's a crappy question.
Mich: It's a crappy question....great.
Downloaded music being allowed into the charts now so that bands like
Koopa get surprise chart positions and unsigned bands...is it going to
help music in general?
Ant: I think it's too early to tell. I don't like the way the music and the charts work at the moment. I like the old way of when you release a single, building up slowly six or eight weeks before it makes it. They used to do that back in the old days, and they still do that in Europe.

People, Interviews - Interview With The Paddingtons By John-Paul Nicholas. Photographs - The Paddingtons at The Adelphi By Darren Rogers

|
They look like The Clash used to. They look like The Stone Roses' evil twins.
They look like a gang.
And they are as tight as a gang, finishing each other's sentences and putting across their
points individually, knowing that they speak for the band as a whole.
Acting as spokesman Lloyd says What I fuckin' hate about music magazines is
