You are currently living in England, though you have spent time living in America before. Did you find that the time you spent in America was conducive to providing any more inspiration than time spent in England does as a rule? The year and a half I spent in the States was refreshing and enabled me to get perspective on my work and what I wanted to do with it and with my life. It's always good to get out of your comfort zone for a while and inhabit somewhere new, so that you can shed a skin and ever so subtly reinvent yourself.

I was living in the far outer suburbs of Chicago, where I met some very nice people and had the use of a fantastic smalltown library for research purposes (this was in the days just before the internet got big), a place that would put even the best of local British libraries to shame. I'd recommend a stay abroad to anyone, with the proviso that, unless you perfectly love being there, you must always come back.

Finally, what is the best way to keep up to speed concerning developments with your writing and the like, and which book (if any) would you recommend outright to a person who might not have read anything by you before, but who now feels a nagging urge to become better acquainted with your writing? I wish I could say my website (www.jameslovegrove.com) is the best place to follow what I'm up to, except that I update it fairly infrequently. In part this is laziness and inefficiency, but also I get very absorbed in work and distracted by that, and the website thing just sort of slips.

However, the website has a comprehensive Lovegrove bibliography and a commentary on each of my publications, with review quotes, so that should give the casual browser some idea what each book is about and whether he/she might like it. Then he/she can visit any bookshop or online store and buy a copy!
