An Interview With Tajinere (3/3)
By Steve Rudd
(1/3), (2/3), (3/3).

What excites you most about the current, thriving music scene in and around Hull?

You know what, when I got back to Hull, I was genuinely surprised by the quality of the music scene in this city. I really enjoy seeing live performances and I've seen some really fantastic ones by local artists. Mind you, I've seen some total dross as well but you've got to take the rough with the smooth haven't you?
But not only is the music good, the attitude of the fans, the promoters, the press, DJs and everyone involved in the scene has almost universally been incredibly positive and supportive. Long may it continue.

The only downside is that there seems to only be a tiny, tiny live hip hop scene at the moment and I think that's a bit of a shame, but I guess it's up to people like me to change that isn't it?
Have you recorded your debut album, or is it a work in progress?

It's still a work in progress at the moment, Steve. My problem was that I kept writing tracks and want to put them all on the album! So it's swollen from the original 10 tracks to 14 or 15 now but I've told myself no more and all new songs are going to be saved for the next one.

Yesterday I finished recording all the instrumentation so now I've just got the vocals to get down.
The album is called Paupers & Kings and, all things being well should be available very soon.
Finally, what is the best way that anybody who is interested in your music can keep up to date with what you are up to?

I've got a website www.tajinere.com with all the latest news and info about upcoming shows, as well as lyrics, pictures, free downloads and all that stuff.

Also, there's Heart Of The Nation's website www.heartofthenation.co.uk with information about more releases, collaborations and other bits and bobs.
Have a look at them, enjoy the music and if you want to collaborate, drop me an email.
