Otherwise you become resentful; it is human nature if you do something for no reward for long enough you end up not doing it. Don't give me that altruistic argument, altruism doesn't exist. Another thing, many of the bands have to do the getting people through the door themselves when surely that is the job of the promoter. That's what he is paid for by the venue.

There are numerous ways to promote a night; not just the odd flyer and poster hastily stuck up on the wall. I know very often the lack of inventive promotion can be down to overheads but if the venue owners are not prepared to back your night and give you a realistic promotions budget then sod 'em. If the punters want what you're selling i.e. live music then those venues and breweries should pay for it. After all, they are going to claw it all back in bar takings. I want the bands in Hull to stand together, form a united front and put pressure on the promoters and venues to pay them something half decent.

Something that covers their considerable costs (drum skins and guitar strings and van hire don't come cheap you know) an amount that reflects not only their talent but also the takings at the end of the night. After all without the bands that all the places are so keen to put on their cramped little stages with dodgy sound, the promoters and venues are fucked! Think about it Hull. Union Now!
