Opinions
Life in a Modern World
By Darren Sant

Some of my thoughts on bizarre aspects of our modern world..

Unreality TV

Is it me or is the world getting weirder? This is a world where people watch TV programmes like Big Brother.
People sit around on a settee watching the telly watching people sitting on a settee. I'm beginning to get a headache.

Now if they all had little cages on their heads with rats in like in George Orwell's novel 1984..that would be interesting.

Maybe we could even throw in a few starving lions. It wouldn't so much be Jade's been evicted as Jade's been masticated. Mind you even lions have some taste.

Now these reality TV people are starting to get clever. The latest TV show is called Back to Reality and it features former reality TV show contestants.

Is it me or are these buggers taking it just a little too far? Well the next reality TV show I'd like to see is Nuclear House.

It will feature all your favourite reality show stars in a house in the middle of a desert and a very very large nuclear weapon.
Text Messages

Have you considered the absurdity of text messages? With mobile phones as popular as they are I wonder how far the bizarre text message shorthand will go.

Will future Shakespeare wanna be's type things like:
U R B U Tiful Baby,
Can I Compare U 2 a new Nokia T3,000,000e (retail price 3339 euros),
U R dead fit luv,
Luv Romeo
Xxxx

Will our literacy evaporate like petrol in the mid day sun? Will future novels be abbreviated down to 5 pages?

Will the Sun newspaper be considered a highbrow wordy tome? I am sure time will tell if we don't all die first from global warming.
The Internet

The greatest collection of information the world has ever seen and also a good place to buy cheap CDs.

Some would have you believe it is the work of the devil. Others hail it as the place they have met the love of their life in a chat room called "Meet the love of your life forget about the wife".
Clean sites, dirty sites, mad sites, sad sites, news, views, porn, scorn, curtains, e-bay, e-jay, blue jay, google, pot noodle, alta vista, naked twister, hot or not, friends reunited, relatives uninvited.

Love it or hate the Internet is here to stay in all of its insane immensity get connected or be assimilated.
Blame

It's your fault! You were negligent I am going to sue!

Don't try to wriggle out of it! We live in a blame culture and it gets worse every year that goes by.

We try to make others accountable for every mistake. Well I only have one thing to say on the subject.

It wasn't my fault it was someone else's!

NightClub Reviews - Fuel NightClub By Carolyn
As Friday night bounced away in its masses I hot footed it along with photographer Dee down to the opening night of Hulls newest café bar/nightclub FUEL. Aircraft and Airshows - Concorde by Tony
On Friday 24th October 2003 the last fight of Concorde by British Airways as a fare paying passenger aircraft took place. If you have flown on Concorde or have seen it in flight, you can understand what a great loss this will be to the nation. The aircraft, first airborne in 1969, was and is still out in front in design and technical innovation.    Read more...

Fiction - Halloween - One For The Road
by Nicholas Boldock
Jason Travis tip-tapped the steering wheel in time to the music blaring from the car's speakers. He glanced at the digital clock on the dashboard - 16:53. The sky was darkening, even at this early summer hour, not as a result of the setting sun but brought about by the lumbering grey rain clouds overhead. Read more...

Fiction - Telling Lies by Nicholas Boldock
At half past five Harry arranged all the papers on his desk into neat piles, as he always did before going home. He shoved his pens into the blue plastic desk tidy and shut down his PC. He performed this same ritual every evening, did it automatically, even unconsciously. He felt overjoyed to be finally going home - the days seemed to be getting longer and longer and longer - even though home, to Harry, was only marginally more bearable than work. Read more...

Places to Visit - A day by the beach - Bridlington Harbour.
This Sunday I was spoilt for choice - either to visit a Buddhist centre in "Kilham" or attend a strawberries and cream party. Opted to go and find Zen so duly arrived with my offspring (Katie and Oliver) at my friend's house (Cilla) punctually (for a change) at 11.30. Read more...
