Life is too Short
By The Lazyswede
I sat on the quiet banks of the river watching the early morning mist twist and swirl while the water meandered slowly into the distance, listening to the far off sounds of the city as the people made their way to work.
Car horns blowing and the sound of voices carrying on the gentle breeze. Yet although so close, I could have been on the far side of the world.
A siren sounds upstream and through the breaking mist I see the dark shape of the bridge appear, and flashing lights plainly on either side but the bridge was empty apart from a small group of people in the centre.
From time to time the mist obscured my vision, but cleared eventually. The sound of a bullhorn could be heard telling someone to give themselves up.
A gun shot and screams and people running for cover. The police cars were driven out of sight and a military vehicle appeared with guns pointing at the people in the centre of the bridge. And still the bullhorn could be heard asking them to give themselves up but no reply was heard.
The morning was shattered with the flash of light that almost blinded me and then the explosion and the force of the blast hit me.
As I lifted my head the bridge was lying in the water and there were screams and shouts and a feeling of wanton chaos.
As the rest of the smoke cleared the water in front of me gradually changed colour from it's muddy brown to a swirling of dark red. Then a body appeared. The shock and amazement made me topple forward and I lost my footing and almost ended up in the river as well.
Then I awoke and sat up in my bed, the radio blaring out loud. The radio presenter was describing the scenes at a hostage taking, the police had simply shown their hand and the terrorists had blown themselves into martyrdom along with a few unlucky poor bastards who simply were in the wrong place at the wrong time.
When the blood flows, it's all the same colour, when we die we all die because we cannot live forever but why die for religion and in the name of GOD. No matter what you wish to call him, he is not worth dying for because life is too short.

Opinions - Blame By Darren Sant
I didn't say you were to blame, I said I'm blaming you.
I am getting heartily sick of the blame culture we live in these days. Something goes wrong in the hospital, we sue. The dentist pulls out the wrong tooth, we sue.
Admittedly we are not as bad as Americans yet, thank god, but

Opinions - A Call for Peace By Michelle Dee Clark

Martin Luther King had a dream. His dream was crushed by jack booted, hooded ignorance.
There has always been wrong in this world. From the trials in Scottsboro* Alabama in the 1930's to more recent events in Jasper Texas in 1998**.
We are all guilty. When you talk of Kosovans and Iraqi's you focus on what the media want you to then project that onto everyone, be it ethnic minorities or anyone

Opinions - Life in a Modern World By Darren Sant

Some of my thoughts on bizarre aspects of our modern world..
Unreality TV
Is it me or is the world getting weirder? This is a world where people watch TV programmes like Big Brother.
People sit around on a settee watching the telly watching people sitting on a settee. I'm beginning to get a headache.
Now if they all had little cages on their heads

What do you think about the price of printer cartridges?
I can't afford them. My printer has long periods of rest between bouts of frenzied use while the colours still give any semblance of anything other than black and white. The very idea of the printer being useable is a treat for the whole family!

Articles - Death On Camera By Nicholas Boldock
I have just watched Death On Camera, the BBC documentary about Christopher Alder, who died in police custody in Hull in 1998. If you missed the programme and don't already know the case, here are the facts:
Christopher Alder was in Waterfront Nightclub on the night of April 1st, 1998. There was an altercation inside the club

Articles - Made In Hull - Part One - Arundel Street Days By Maurice Fairfield
My story begins in Arundel Street and wanders away to the shallow end of Holderness Road next door to the tram sheds and opposite the old Astoria Cinema, which was at that time the New Astoria Cinema.
Then to Hedon for a time, then back to Arundel a couple of years before the outbreak of the war.

Before we start on our journey, let me give you a bit of background on Avebury.
It is a beautiful stone circle, so big that you can in fact fit a village inside it, as you can see from this overhead map!
As well as being a tourist spot, it is both a home and a gathering

Places to Visit - A day by the beach - Bridlington Harbour.
This Sunday I was spoilt for choice - either to visit a Buddhist centre in "Kilham"
or attend a strawberries and cream party. Opted to go and find Zen so duly arrived
with my offspring (Katie and Oliver) at my friend's house (Cilla) punctually (for
a change) at 11.30.
