Haircuts In The Crowd
By Mr. Lucifer
|
|
If you are becoming bored of the vain, look at me I'm so cool culture that swamps the nationwide
indie/rock scene and if you are sick of standing among people with the same haircuts,
the same clothes, and the same transfixed miserable look on their faces, then,
you are obviously craving exactly what I am from our beloved culture - some fucking originality!
|
|
|
Don't get me wrong, until the day I die I'll always prefer the sound of a guitar-fronted band
to that of a pilled-up DJ or a jewellery ridden wannabe gangster singing What's up, yo, got
it going on, but recent visits to some local clubs and music venues have made me think a little,
with a few exceptions, it's all the fucking same.
I was overjoyed when visiting Adelphi the other weekend, as the likes of Park & Ride and
Sidewinder have obviously spent more time writing songs and practicing than standing in front
of the mirror for hours and making themselves look like clones of their idols.
|
Without doubt there are a number of good bands in Hull, but do they all need to be tied to the same brush?
Does long hair make a band successful? Will making yourself look like every other band in the city get you noticed?
All of these are questions I've been asking myself recently, as it's something that is beginning to grate on me.
|
|
|
In my opinion, music is remembered 90% through the ears and 10% through the eyes, so a word of note to
some of those bands out there trying to make it big - work on your sound before your look,
stop caressing that dead cat on your head, and try and become something that might get you somewhere.... original!

Opinions - The Moaning Bulldog Breed. By Engelbert De'Moaner
|
|
I must admit I'm just as prone to moaning as the next person; God it's raining again; It's too damn hot; What, they've put the price of fags up again!
So what! Who cares? Just stop bloody moaning!
Even if you or I do moan what good is it going to do any of us? We never do anything about anything at all!

Opinions - Life is too Short By The Lazyswede
|
|
I sat on the quiet banks of the river watching the early morning mist twist and swirl while the water meandered slowly into the distance, listening to the far off sounds of the city as the people made their way to work
Car horns blowing and the sound of voices carrying on the gentle breeze. Yet although so close, I could

Opinions - Blame By Darren Sant
|
|
I didn't say you were to blame, I said I'm blaming you.
I am getting heartily sick of the blame culture we live in these days. Something goes wrong in the hospital, we sue. The dentist pulls out the wrong tooth, we sue.
Admittedly we are not as bad as Americans yet, thank god, but

Opinions - A Call for Peace By Michelle Dee Clark
|

Martin Luther King had a dream. His dream was crushed by jack booted, hooded ignorance.
There has always been wrong in this world. From the trials in Scottsboro* Alabama in the 1930's to more recent events in Jasper Texas in 1998**.
We are all guilty. When you talk of Kosovans and Iraqi's you focus on what the media want you to then project that onto everyone, be it ethnic minorities or anyone

Opinions - Life in a Modern World By Darren Sant
|
|
Some of my thoughts on bizarre aspects of our modern world..
Unreality TV
Is it me or is the world getting weirder? This is a world where people watch TV programmes like Big Brother.
People sit around on a settee watching the telly watching people sitting on a settee. I'm beginning to get a headache.
Now if they all had little cages on their heads

Fashion - Revolver: When Mod meets Modification By Daniel Laney

The new vintage clothing shop set to make a big impact in Hull city centre.
Trinity Market, Hull (Opposite Trinity Church. Mon - Sat 9am-5pm)
When the terms Retro or Vintage are linked with clothes, thoughts of over priced charity shop
fabrics and the smell of musty damp cupboards rapidly come to mind.
However, with

Articles - The Oscars 2004 By Steve Rudd
|
|
The highlight of Hollywood's calendar, The Oscars seem to come around faster every year.
Our man in LA to report back to Britain on proceedings was Film 2004 face Jonathan Ross who didn't do a bad job at all, but seemed hampered by his panel of three accompanying guests in the form of Welsh (supposed) funnyman
Rob Brydon, and the impersonating duo of Ronni

|
Before we start on our journey, let me give you a bit of background on Avebury.
It is a beautiful stone circle, so big that you can in fact fit a village inside it, as you can see from this overhead map!
As well as being a tourist spot, it is both a home and a gathering

Places to Visit - A day by the beach - Bridlington Harbour.
|
|
This Sunday I was spoilt for choice - either to visit a Buddhist centre in "Kilham"
or attend a strawberries and cream party. Opted to go and find Zen so duly arrived
with my offspring (Katie and Oliver) at my friend's house (Cilla) punctually (for
a change) at 11.30.
