The Bitch Hikers Guide to The Fashionista Dance Troupe! (2/3)
By Mr. B. Quiet

Once that crisis is over, they nipped down to their local swift store, to
pick up their newly designed blazers (that the shop owner probably
paid £1.50 for from a charity shop and flogs for £25 - profits? fucking extortion!),
with a Ramones logo printed onto the back - despite the consumer not having a clue
who The Ramones are (a bit like The XXXXX - add your own The... name, aren't they?)!
|
Is it me, or do these people have more money than sense?
Answers printed onto the back of your blazer to the usual thisisull address.
Having been lucky enough to have observed this mass hysteria by the kids who ten years
ago would be attempting to strive for that Gallagher Manc swagger (I think there
are some of you still out there actually), or passing yourself off
as a mockney cockney, all in the name of all that was Camden and PARKLIFE!,
they would have been kissing the arses of the likes of Menswe@r when they
were the height of fashion for 2 minutes one rainy afternoon in the summer of '95!

Juts look at the list of bands clocking up the music charts and pages of the nations music press;
The White Stripes, The Cribs, The Killers, The Yards, The Ravonettes,
The Features, Libertines, The Rocks, The Pattern, The Hives, The Rakes, The Ordinary Boys,
The Long Blondes, The Paddingtons, The Strokes, The Thrills, The Beatles,
The Mass Histeria Hyped Fashionista Morris Dancing Coke Knitting Scuba Driving Club Lovers ...
Ok, ok so I made the last one up.
A prime example is the likes of The Others - apparently keeping it real and
doing it for the poor kids. Wanted to do guerrilla gigs, constantly keeping
in contact with fans, saying they know how it feels to be a fan - and what's so
special about that? Who doesn't?
|
|
Having seen the band (having to pay, not one of the previously mentioned impro
guerrilla gigs, that don't seem to happened anywhere outside of a certain area
of famous land marks in that village, London) they didn't look to be playing to
poor kids to me ... they could afford to get into the gig (and the wardrobe
mentioned above!) to start with - a poor mans Sham 69 ... or rather a
rich kids Sham 69 should I say!
|
|
I want them all one day to form one BIG THE ala Polyphonic Spree stylie band and be
called THE THE THE THE THE THE THE THE THE THE THE THE THE THE THE THE THE...WHAT FUCKING EVER!
And with an echo of The Ramones, and a huge cry of All for one and THE for All,
they all change there surnames to The.
|
|
In the same way, we see all these Solid Gold Hits of the 60's touring every theatre
and city hall in the country. I can't wait till 2032, when Butlins in Skegness
present A Trip back to The GarageDayz Explosion! So instead of 5th generation
version of The Searchersand Gerry and the Pacemakers etc (all probably only
featuring one member of the original band, it's usually the drummer!) we'll
be at Butlins witnessing the likes of The Ordinary Boys, Babyshambles (minus Pete,
but then again that's nothing new!), The Killers etc all sharing the bill
with their middle-aged spread.

There are some positive aspects to this entire explosion.
Yeah, it inspires people to get up and do something.
I'ts fantastic that fellow Hulls' The Paddingtons cracked the top 20 with their single.

I hate cars. I love driving but I hate cars.
No other singular human invention has caused me more grief than the car, except maybe beer.
I've had a few (cars that is not beers) and the things are only there for one reason ...
to bleed the bank account dry.

What a sight.
It just blows your mind when you wake in the morning and realise some bar-steward has been and robbed you again, the bikes have gone. For Christ's sake not again!
This place could be nice if the thieves could sod off, and the parents of the kids who prowl in
the night could

Opinions - When Technology Takes Over By Steve Rudd

Am I the only person left in Britain not to own a DVD player? For sure, I must be one of only a select number of people to be currently flogging the life out of their vintage VHS video recorders.. but I'm not all that bothered.
At the end of the day, a movie is no different whether it is played in

Opinions - Youth Clubs? By Andrea Longstaff
|
|
Why is it that the only youth club in the Newland Avenue area opens at ridiculously limited hours?
I went out for provisions (milk) the other evening and there were four teenagers sat on the outside stairs.
I asked them what they were doing, they looked cold. Nothing really, so I asked them if they wanted a cuppa,
they ended up coming in and

I must say that I was surprised at how negatively outsiders seem to view the city. To me it is the friendliest city in the world.

Around a 100 people gathered in Pearson Park on Saturday (18th September), for a Reclaim the Streets

the rest of the numbers were made up by the police.
Now there are a number of reasons why the ratio between protestors and police

Opinions - QUEER? Queer in the head..! By Rich Mills
|
|
I recently picked up a copy of a new zine called Queer.
A new newsletter for the non steryotypes (sic).
A supposed literary publication that can't spell stereotype is a bit crap,
and that is only the front cover. The inside pages, most of them blank
(like the mind of its author) are even

Opinions - What is Reclaim The Streets about Anyway? A Personal Perspective

Many moons ago in my misspent youth, I, like many others, used to have a problem with Authority
and 'fought injustice' wherever I discovered it.
So I joined others in the grand mass of those in the non-conformists uniform, and would
march, relevant placard in hand, most Saturdays.
These days the

Opinions - Musings By Mark Pollard

A couple of things that have perplexed me over the years:
Firstly, why the link between heel bars and key cutting? They always seem to be combined
under the same roof. I don't geddit.
Potential for major calamities, too - imagine going in for a new heel
on your brogues and ending up

Opinions - Pete Docherty Is Dead! By Rich Mills

The headline they all want to see! I've watched the development of what is a disturbing form of hero worship.
The desire to see self-destruction in the flesh, is how I read many of the reviews I've read about
Pete Docherty, Babyshambles, the Libertines new album,

Recent experiences have spurred me on to write this little piece. In the space of a year or so I've gone from being a community-loving socialist to something resembling an individualist...well in some ways anyhow.
I'll start from the beginning. Having been brought up on an estate with definite community

Rain! Rain! Rain!
Is this Mother Nature's symbolism? The bursting of the amniotic sack?
Well it's not big and it's not clever!
It's like some select club that I'm not a member of, and at my age (weirdo)!
I'm made to feel like an outcast!

In my first contribution on this website I referred to the nice experience I had in Hull as a foreign student. When I read the articles on Hull's racism, I thought I can share my view since I have had some experiences from both sides.
