In Reply To - Fear And Loathing In Hull (by Nicholas Boldock) continued

I, like many others have walked around our town without a blindfold on and seen the refugees with their phones, in their cars, smoking the cigarettes they are apparently too impoverished to afford wearing decent clothes. It is known that some of them have managed to secure work also, legal or not, does that not hint at the beginnings of a symbiotic relationship?
|
|
I have seen them march to the front of queues in stores at the weekends demanding service ahead of many other people and doing the same in front of children at Hull fair, producing government papers to accentuate what they see as their right. That same fair was brought into frightening disarray when these individuals were refused and proceeded to terrify children and onlookers alike by severely beating up several white men.
|
The attack on the Iraqi man mentioned in the article was completely disgraceful but is it any more important than the white girl raped by two refugees who only stopped their vile act to beat up a white male who was attempting to stop them?
Racism is wrong but the definition here is what is right and wrong in behavioural terms, what is appropriate and what is acceptable. Numerous attacks are known throughout Hull's population but none are reported in the mainstream media for sinister reasons. If this website claims any responsibility to promote peace and harmony in the future of its community then it will print this e-mail and any others that appear like it. It will not view its own streets with neglect or be selective as to what it reports as right and wrong.

|
There are problems in Hull's community with race relations as I'm sure there are in several towns and cities across England where there have been no attempts at assimilation of refugees into their new community. Hull's native population is not to be blamed as are not the refugees, but a stand must be taken by all on both sides to begin integration, to begin to understand one another and the media must claim responsibility and do its job at any cost if it truly values the people it represents.

If one thing has been made apparent in recent years it is the government's agenda that will be satiated at all costs, the people have the strength, speak, be honest with yourselves and with each other and look for an end to these troubled times through understanding and acceptance.

Opinions - Musings By Mark Pollard

A couple of things that have perplexed me over the years:
Firstly, why the link between heel bars and key cutting? They always seem to be combined
under the same roof. I don't geddit.
Potential for major calamities, too - imagine going in for a new heel
on your brogues and ending up

Opinions - Pete Docherty Is Dead! By Rich Mills

The headline they all want to see! I've watched the development of what is a disturbing form of hero worship.
The desire to see self-destruction in the flesh, is how I read many of the reviews I've read about
Pete Docherty, Babyshambles, the Libertines new album,

Opinions - The End of Solidarity? By Jane Foster
|
|
Recent experiences have spurred me on to write this little piece. In the space of a year or so I've gone from being a community-loving socialist to something resembling an individualist...well in some ways anyhow.
I'll start from the beginning. Having been brought up on an estate with definite community

Opinions, Reply - Of monkeys, mice and men. By Martin J Deane

In her A Call for Peace, Michelle D Clark covers
much ground as to why we do awful things to each other.
The key is, to quote her, that We are all guilty.
We are. We are all guilty - we make enemies.
We create them out of people who think differently to us, or eat rice, or act in different ways.
We are human; some people annoy us, some wind us up, others

Opinions - The War By Carolyn
|

Since the war in Iraq has been reported about, I made a silent agreement with myself that
whatever thoughts about the war I have I will not write about or permanently express in any way.
I think this is because of some type of anger that I haven't felt

Opinions - Will graduate plumbers be up to the job? By Jane Foster
|
|
The recent programme Posh Plumbers on BBC1 highlighted the growing number of middle class graduates and professionals turning to plumbing for a living. With a national shortage of 32,000 plumbers, and salaries to match those of a decent job in the capital, the profession is changing.

Opinions - Come On You Hull! By Laura Baldwin

So our latest award to sit alongside our much treasured worst city to live in the UK award'
is that of the fattest city in the UK. Yep, not content with telling us that we live in
the most crap city in the UK but apparently we're also a bunch of big lard arses as well. Charming.
It seems that no-one has anything good to say these days about the historic city of Hull.

Opinions - Life is too Short By The Lazyswede

I sat on the quiet banks of the river watching the early morning mist twist and swirl while the water meandered slowly into the distance, listening to the far off sounds of the city as the people made their way to work
Car horns blowing and the sound of voices carrying on the gentle breeze. Yet although so close, I could

Opinions - Blame By Darren Sant
|
|
I didn't say you were to blame, I said I'm blaming you.
I am getting heartily sick of the blame culture we live in these days. Something goes wrong in the hospital, we sue. The dentist pulls out the wrong tooth, we sue.
Admittedly we are not as bad as Americans yet, thank god, but

Opinions - A Call for Peace By Michelle Dee Clark

Martin Luther King had a dream. His dream was crushed by jack booted, hooded ignorance.
There has always been wrong in this world. From the trials in Scottsboro* Alabama in the 1930's to more recent events in Jasper Texas in 1998**.
We are all guilty. When you talk of Kosovans and Iraqi's you focus on what the media want you to then project that onto everyone, be it ethnic minorities or anyone

Opinions - Life in a Modern World By Darren Sant

Some of my thoughts on bizarre aspects of our modern world..
Unreality TV
Is it me or is the world getting weirder? This is a world where people watch TV programmes like Big Brother.
People sit around on a settee watching the telly watching people sitting on a settee. I'm beginning to get a headache.
Now if they all had little cages on their heads

Opinions - Refill Not Landfill

What do you think about the price of printer cartridges?
I can't afford them. My printer has long periods of rest between bouts of frenzied use while the colours still give any semblance of anything other than black and white. The very idea of the printer being useable is a treat for the whole family!
