In my first contribution on this website I referred to the nice experience I had in Hull as a foreign student. When I read the articles on Hull's racism, I thought I can share my view since I have had some experiences from both sides.

Albanian immigrants residing in Greece occasionally can be hostile. The proximity to their native land (they can go to Albania in 5-10 hours by bus) is giving them the power and sometimes, arrogance, to speak out loud about their culture and their rights, stronger than an African or Iraqi would do in Greece.
At school marches celebrating the liberation of Greece from the Turkish, the Albanians are not allowed to raise the Greek flag, while other immigrant student are allowed.

Therefore, the Greeks have selective racism, not based on skin colour but on culture: they don't like their habits and behaviour.
In a football match between the national teams of Greece and Albania, there was a climate of war. Albanians even shouted about Northern Greece belonging to their country's territory (Albania is situated at the north borders of Greece).

People of all sides talked on TV, big networks giving air time to well known racists who found an opportunity to raise their unjust words.
Still, around me, there are those Albanians who want to work hard, to be my friend, to be Greek, as they say. There wasn't a national eruption of racism against all Albanian during the football game simply because not all Albanian are like those idiots.

So, regarding Iraqis in Hull having luxury cars, we should ask ourselves if what we see represents the majority of the people we judge. If these Iraqi are doing mafia jobs, then why must all the other hard working Iraqis be judged so badly?
It also helps to think that if Iraqi and other immigrants own countries weren't a mess, these people would stay in their homeland, enjoying their lives better than being away in Europe. They didn't decide one day to go to Europe and make the locals go crazy. It wasn't their choice. They had to leave in order to find food and decent lives.
Besides, THE WORLD IS CHANGING, and if some of us cannot deal with it, we will suffer. It is known, after the end of colonisation that the world is merging into one huge village helped by telecommunications and aeroplanes. I am not saying this is good, but it is a worldwide trend for the last 15 years.
