Jobs Plan Can Help Defeat Extremist Danger In Our Region

Shan Oakes, Green Party European election candidate claimed today that a new economic direction can help prevent extremists from bringing race hatred and public disorder to the region.

Shan Oakes said, 'Some politicians intend to undermine the European Parliament elections in June by using them to spread race hatred. Across Europe, small racist and fascist parties are peddling false excuses for the economic crisis, blaming migrants, but the recession is clearly not caused by hardworking Polish agricultural labourers in North Lincolnshire. It is caused by an outdated economic system which is damaging the planet; by government failure and the greed of bankers and speculators.
'The answer is a new direction, with investment in millions of new 'green' jobs in home and business insulation, new housing, renewable energy and better public transport: a 'Green New Deal' to cut energy bills and improve lives. The New Economics Foundation now tells us that the UK has invested the least in clean technology amongst the rich nations.

'Billions of pounds have been made available for banks.
They could be made available to create jobs. Tackling climate change and unemployment with green jobs provides real hope for a better future. And when people have hope they don't listen to hate.'
Shan Oakes is the Green Party's Yorkshire and Humber candidate for the European Parliament elections on June 4th this year. The elections are run by proportional representation rather than the UK's first past the post system so the Greens stand a good chance of being elected but every vote counts.
