Hull University Mental Health Students Raising Money to Travel to Uganda

Local Mental Health Nursing students Carolyn Park-Young, Chloe Grannon and Danielle Holmes are raising funds to help them travel to Uganda in March 2010 to take part in an international nursing placement at Mbarara hospital.

Hull University has a long established teaching link with Mbarara hospital but this will be the first time that students from Hull's Mental Health nursing department will travel to Uganda to observe their Mental Health nursing practice. It is hoped that the trip will benefit the student's education and expand their skills within their NHS careers when they qualify in September 2010.
The students are organising several fund raisers, the first being an evening of entertainment and on Saturday 22nd August at Zoo Cafe, 80b Newland Avenue, Hull.

Starting at 7pm, the night will bring comedy from popular local comedian Andy Train www.andytrain.co.uk, an original acoustic set from Toni Lille, a sponsored hair cut (Carolyn will have her dreadlocks cut off for £1 each!) plus an auction and raffle of goods kindly donated by local businesses.

Among the items to be auctioned will be Wahl ceramic hair straighteners and hair dryer set donated by Stamps Electrical and a photo session at Apple Studios with 2 prints worth £70
Raffle prizes will include a free MOT from Mill Lane Autos, Beverley, a selection of prizes from Mana Tree, Super Value and Madisons on Newland Avenue, booze, jewellery and 'The Ultimate Nana Pack'.
Tickets for the night are £6 which as well as the entertainment will include home made vegetarian food and gift bags for all!

Carolyn, Chloe and Danielle will be continuing to raise money for their trip over the coming weeks and months. On Sunday 23rd August, 2 of their university lecturers, Tim Welbourne and Carl Slee are taking part in the Beverley Triathlon and will be donating their sponsorship money to the Uganda Fund.

For more information about the forthcoming trip to Uganda check out their website www.uganda2010.co.uk To make a donation please call 07716 582611.
