Comedy Stars Set for Festival

Paddy McGuinness, Frankie Boyle, Pete Firman and Russell Kane are amongst top comedians that will be bringing laughs to Hull's second comedy festival in the autumn. Hull Comedy Festival promises over two weeks of mirth and entertainment as audiences are entertained by local talent and big names from the world of comedy. The festival with open on Thursday 23rd October and run until Friday 7th November.

Headliners at the festival are Paddy McGuinness, star of Max and Paddy's Road to Nowhere who will be performing at Hull City Hall on Thursday 30th October, and Mock the Week regular Frankie Boyle who will performing on Monday 3rd November also at Hull City Hall. Other top acts appearing at the festival include: Pete Firman, presenter of the Channel 4 show Dirty Tricks who will be bringing his show to the Quality Royal Hotel on Friday 24th October and rising star Russell Kane who will be bringing his energetic comedy to the Albemarle Music Centre.

As part of the festival's push to cater for a wider family appeal it will feature a series of shows at Hull New Theatre including the shows Ha Ha Hamlet and Horrid Henry. Hull City Council's Youth Arts Unit are organising and presenting the Plhip Plhop comedy workshops where young people will be trained to perform as part of a live show at the Albemarle Music Centre.

Festival Director, John Gilbert said: 'We are really happy with the shows we've secured so far and I think that the fact that we've got shows going into the larger venues like Hull New Theatre and Hull City Hall shows that the festival is growing. Its thanks really the management there and the other patient folks involved in making festival shows happen that we are able to put together a line-up that tops last year. It's all very exciting and there is more to come.' John confirmed that the Tenfoot City Comedian of the Year and the Green Helmet Day would be returning following their success in last year's festival and that a number of new features would be announced over the next few months.

He stated that free tickets for the End of Festival Extravaganza on 7th November remain available on a first-come, first-served basis and that comedy fans should visit www.hullcomedy.co.uk to find out how to get on the guest list. Hull Comedy Festival is organised by Eskimo Soup Presents and is delivered in partnership by Hull City Centre BID, Hull Colour Pages and St. Stephens with the support of over a dozen local companies as well as sponsorship from Magners Irish Cider.
