National Trade Unionist Speaks in Hull
|
Brian Caton, General Secretary of the Prison Officers Association will be speaking at a
public meeting on Tuesday 22 January 2008 at 7pm at The George Hotel,
Land Of Green Ginger, Hull. The Prison Officers Association is currently
in dispute with the government over pay and the right to strike.
Brian Caton said 'Nothing surprises me with the New Labour party.
The Government may believe that they can bully and threaten my members but they cannot.
If they believe that threatening POA members with imprisonment is a step forward for
industrial relations they are sadly wrong. This union like every union should be
treated with respect and trust.
|
|
|
The POA only react when no one listens, when the employer and government resort to
the Courts to manage the Service and of course when promises are broken.
We will be calling all public sector workers to unite against this reserved
legislation, maybe the Government have underestimated the support of the
worker and fallout that will arise if they continue to attack the Trades Union movement'.
Keith Ellis, President of Hull Trades Council, said 'The Labour government insist
all public sector workers will have their pay cut in real terms for the next three years.
We are delighted Brian has agreed to speak and this meeting will be an opportunity for
local workers to discuss the public sector pay battle and to defend the right to strike '
