St Stephen’s Scoops Top Award

St Stephen's Shopping Centre is celebrating after winning a prestigious Good Mark award from Hull Civic Society.

The award will be presented to store manager David Laycock by Mike Killoran, manager of Princes Quay Shopping Centre and president of Hull Civic Society. The presentation will take place on Thursday 18th December at 11.30 am in St Stephen's Shopping Centre management suite. St Stephen's manager, David Laycock said, We are absolutely thrilled to be receiving this award. Although we have won many awards since we opened, the Good Mark is particularly special as it has been awarded by our own community. We are so proud to be a part of the regeneration of the city.'

Malcolm Sharman, Chairman of Hull Civic Society Good Marks Awards said of the decision, 'St Stephen's was unanimously awarded a Good Mark, not only for its outstanding architectural and constructional quality but because of its unique contribution to the city centre gateway area.'

Good Marks are awarded to recognise the best in architecture, landscaping, heritage or restoration projects. They are awarded for high quality design and construction which is judged to have made a positive contribution to the local environment and help improve the area. 	Local children, Young People and some adults, gave up their Saturday (5th July 2008) to wash cars in the pouring rain. There was no charge for the service and the drivers and passengers were encouraged to go into the church hall to be served coffee and cake, again all free of charge.
