National Poetry Day

Today is National Poetry day, so we thought we'd take this opportunity to point you in the direction of our huge poetry section. Since thisisUll.com's inception in August 2003, the poetry section has become one of the website's most popular features (we believe it's the largest collection of poetry on one single website in the north of England!) and has not only publicised Hull's burgeoning poetry scene, but encouraged its development as well. In addition to publishing poetry, we are now also posting performance videos on the website and organising live spoken word events.

Our featured poets include Joe Hakim, Maurice Fairfield (Hull ex-pat living in Melbourne, Australia) Mike Watts, Michelle Dee, Jane Foster, and Lee Cassanell. We would like to remind our readers that we accept submissions from anyone, and poems can be in any style about any subject, so get scribbling... We would also like to wish Joe Hakim the very best of luck today, as he heads down to London to take part in the Farrago Poetry Slam in Whitechapel. Winner of the prestigious Poetry Idol spoken word competition earlier this year, Joe is proving himself to be a shining star from the city of Hull.
