Councillors And MPs Urged To Back Homes Campaign

We are outraged that almost 130,000 children in the Yorkshire and Humber region are growing up homeless or badly housed and 247,499 households are on waiting lists. Research by housing and homelessness charity Shelter shows how bad housing devastates children's health, education and future chances. This means there can be no chance of ending child poverty while so many children are trapped in homes that are temporary, unfit or overcrowded.

That is why we are backing Shelter's campaign to persuade Gordon Brown to commit to providing an extra 20,000 social rented homes a year across England including 1,170 in Yorkshire and Humber. We are also calling on local politicians to demonstrate their support. We challenge these MPs and councillors to engage proactively in this debate with the citizens of Hull through whichever medium they feel appropriate, outlining what they are doing to ensure their leaders are making the housing crisis a priority and pushing for the investment in social homes this country desperately needs.
