Martin Hall Hiking To Help (2/2)
By Michelle Dee
|
(1/2),
(2/2).
|
He has never done an unaided night time hike and has had to set up a series of meeting
points along the way. A G.P.S. (Global Positioning System) from DB Outdoors will also
make sure he stays on the right path.
Martin is also a competent first-aider so should be well equipped to deal with any
minor injuries occurring on the way. When I asked him about blisters he said that
you shouldn't get blisters if you wear proper boots and thick socks.
Local firm Reckitt Benckiser started the fundraising off with a generous donation of
£500.00 and a club night at Hull Student Union has recently added more to the pot.
|
|
|
He says that people are being very generous and supporting him in any way they can.
Martin has teamed up with
www.justgiving.com
and is one of a number of people raising money for good causes.
|
|
Martin has aspirations to get involved with Scout Association and other organisations as a
young leader, as a way to share his knowledge, experience and passion of outdoor activities.
He himself has been inspired by the likes of survivalist Ray Mears and travel
writer/presenter Michael Palin.
Recently the escapades of Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman have captured his imagination and
fuelled the desire to travel around the world himself and document his adventures.
To this end he already writes travel articles for the University Newspaper Hullfire.
Martin also enjoys photography and ornithology (bird-watching) in his spare time.
|
The planning for this challenge has taken just under a year and Martin
wrote the following to personally thank some of the people who have supported him:
I'd like to thank Victoria Bentley for her unequivocal support
Stephen Chambers as a source of inspiration and a great help in all I've undertaken
and finally I'd like to thank Lisa Carter for being a good friend and a fellow camper
