The Lawns Environmental Challenge 2006 - 2007

At Hull University's The Lawns, six halls are currently going head-to-head in an energy-saving challenge. The competition, which started on December 1st 2006 and ends on May 21st 2007, is part of an objective to reduce energy consumption by 10%. The prize will be 25% of the energy cost savings (maximum £5000). Amongst the energy-saving tips for the students are: turning off lights in unoccupied rooms, turning off computers when not in use, showering instead of bathing, turning off appliances instead of leaving them on standby, and not using portable heaters which are high energy consumers.

The event is in coalition with the People and Planet Society in the Union, the University itself and the Energy Manager, and the Environmental Committee which is a student union based and concerned group chaired by a student union representative.
