Time for Carers Grant

The Time for Carers Scheme provides grants to Carers to help get a break from caring. Grants can fund activities which the carer may not normally be able to afford, but which may help them continue in their caring role. It is NOT to fund activities for the cared - for person.

Examples of how carers might use the grant include going away for a weekend break or holiday, studying for a college course or evening class or enjoying a social evening.
The scheme is for people who provide regular and substantial care on an unpaid basis to a relative, friend, or neighbour, including children with a disability, for a minimum of 35 hours per week.
To meet the criteria for the grants, carers:
  • do not have to be living with the cared for person
  • must live in the East Riding of Yorkshire Council area
  • must have a nominee when applying; this can be a professional including staff from voluntary agencies, care support workers, Community Psychiatric Nurse (CPN), GP, day centre worker etc, who has regular involvement with the Carer.
Carers can receive up to £350. Funds are limited, so successful applicants cannot re-apply for 3 years from the anniversary of the first award
Application forms and more information are available from The Carers Support Service. Email: ercarers@eastriding.gov.uk. or call Freephone 0800 917 68 44. Address: 2a Railway Street, Beverley HU17 0DX.
