Friday 31st March - Hull CVS Celebrates.

On Friday 31 March, Hull Community and Voluntary Services (CVS) are celebrating as the West Hull MP the Right Hon Alan Johnson, Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, presents Volunteer Centre Hull with their Quality Standards Accreditation Award. Awarded by the national volunteering organisation Volunteering England, the award focuses on the way that Volunteer Centre Hull meets the core aims of a volunteer development agency in promoting volunteering within the community, developing volunteering opportunities, as well as helping organisations support and manage their volunteers.

Alan Johnson will also launch Volunteer Centre Hull's Good Practice Guide in working with volunteers. Available free of charge to volunteer involving organisations in Hull, the CD-Rom is a valuable guide for those managing and supporting volunteers. The event at 11am at the Age Concern Healthy Living Centre in Porter Street will also see the launch of the new Hull CVS website (www.hullcvs.org.uk) by the Lord Mayor of Hull, Councillor Bradley.

Commenting on the event, Hull CVS Chief Officer Dave Rogers said 'In the past year Volunteer Centre has received 2500 enquiries from members of the public about volunteering in Hull. Additionally we have worked with approximately 175 groups and organisations recruiting volunteers to meet their needs. 'CVS are delighted to receive this award, as well as launch the guide and their website, which will promote the whole range of CVS services and give much wider and easier access to them. It will give voluntary and community organizations, and volunteers, access to a range of information and advice on line. It will provide online access to CVS' new revamped directory which will provide information about the sector and organizations within it'.
