The Philip Lawrence Awards were set up in memory of the head teacher Philip Lawrence, and celebrate outstanding citizenship by groups of young people aged 11 to 20 from across the UK.
The Awards recognise projects that help promote community safety and counter crime, violence and racism.

A 17-year-old Kurdish girl, Malak Ghorbany, has been sentenced to death by stoning in Iran after being found guilty of adultery. Under Iran's Penal Code, the term adultery is used to describe any intimate or sexual act between a man and a girl or a woman outside of marriage. And in Iran, the punishment for adultery is death.
