I hear you went to Kick Out the Jams at the Nags Head on Newland Avenue how was it? It was good; loads of people there. Saw Marv and Rachel, Alfie, Carlos and Uncle Dave, Flo, Maddy, Laura and Brum too ... Brum bought me an NBA, he is a good egg. So who was playing, were they any good? It was GST Cardinals with a bunch of new songs and a new band member called Ryan.

Just the one band then? No two bands, all for free. The second were, Daisy Riots, a torn t-shirted trio from Southport. Where's that then? It's a place about half an hour from Liverpool. Daisy Riots played Glastonbury Festival last year, you know.

Cool! So how did they enjoy playing Hull? Ah, well, I dunno they had a tough gig. It's the first Kick Out the Jams at Nags Head and they had a few technical problems early on. The bass drum kept going for walks and the sound, the vocals ... but hey, a few songs in and they were kicking it. So what were they like? They had the seventies punk garage thing going on, a touch of The Clash; short sharp phrasing, spiky vocals, tight drums; you know sort of raw and ready.

You enjoyed it? Yeah, particularly the single - that was pretty catchy, good hook - worth looking out for. Oh yeah what's it called? Do you feel alone? Download it on iTunes...

So what about GST? How did they go down? You mean did lead singer Dave Sinny go mental again? Yep, course he did, when does he not? Early on during the second song he spun me around in front of the stage, then worried me a bit by getting right in my face. Thought I was going to have to sing the chorus with him for a second. He took one guy from the crowd hostage; that was funny. Best bit though was when he got up on the table, level with the seventies globe lights during Sleep Alone, mic in hand doing the rock star bit.

So, a good night then? Yeah, good night, good atmosphere. The crowd could have been a bit more enthused ... music from James, Lloyd and Grant in the deejay box all good. So you get a chance to talk with Daisy Riots? Yeah, outside after the gig I did talking to the drummer, he told me a bit about the Liverpool scene. Apparently they're one of the few bands on their scene doing the garage punk sound; a lot of the other bands there are stuck on The Beatles.

You know, sort of get on stage, play their set all neat and tidy like; none of that edginess, that feeling that something could go off at any moment.
