Thursday 24th July 08 ... Edwina Hayes at The London Bar, Driffield By Steve Rudd

The third night of its kind to feature live music in The London Bar (local lads Chaser along with Blues prodigy Oli Brown have both played there on previous occasions), Driffield's very own Edwina Hayes performed two hour-long sets on what was a truly unique evening. While the staff served exquisite four-course meals to patrons, Edwina indulged everybody present - whether dining or not - to a sultry selection of old and new songs alike, many of which she lifted from her latest spellbinding album, Pour Me A Drink.

Finding her feet with Run, Leave A Light On For You and Season of Love proceeded to send shivers shuddering down spines, whilst her renditions of Waltzing's For Dreamers and Feels Like Home sounded sublime.

Amicably chatting between numbers, Edwina's relaxed demeanour was perfectly suited to the evening. She even dedicated her supremely catchy Pretty Lady tune to her good friend Carissa Broadwater, confiding to the crowd that Carissa - a star in her own right - is coming over to Driffield from Nashville later this year. Eloquently finger-picking and strumming her acoustic guitar, Edwina writes and performs music that straddles multiple musical genres, with Pop, Folk and Country influences simultaneously smothering her melodies. Her smouldering, emotion-steeped voice is consistently soulful, ensuring that her saddest love songs genuinely do wield the capacity to break one's heart.

Finishing with the title track from her new album, Pour Me A Drink, the sated crowd clapped itself into an invigourating frenzy, overjoyed to have been awarded the privilege of spending such a fantastic evening, in such great company, in what is one of the most accommodating public houses in town.
