Beverley Young Composers' Competition: Finalists Announced

The Beverley & East Riding Early Music Festival has short-listed six young musicians from Beverley, Hull and York to take part in its Young Composers' Competition on Tuesday 22nd April. Delma Tomlin, Director of the Festival said 'we are absolutely delighted to announce that the following young composers have been short-listed for this competition - proving both that there is so much musical talent in the region - and that there is a genuine interest from young people in early music.

Three composers come from the East Riding and Hull: Ben Horrigan of St Mary's College, Hull; Tom Armitage, Wolfreton School, Kirk Ella and Keryn Tatman of Beverley Grammar School and three composers come from York: Natalie Clarke of Fulford School; James Woodrow, St Peter's School and Ruth Eaves, Huntington School.' All six composers will come to the National Centre for Early Music on Tuesday 22nd April for a full day. Starting with a workshop led by University of Huddersfield based composer Aaron Cassidy working with York's Ebor Singers offering each individual composer a remarkable chance to hear their work sung by 'real' singers and to have their music professionally recorded by students from the University of York.

At 7pm on Tuesday 22nd April, Peter Phillips - Director of the internationally acclaimed Tallis Scholars - will listen to all six compositions and choose just one - which will then be premiered in Beverley Minster on Friday 23rd May as part of the Beverley & East Riding Early Music Festival - a truly remarkable opportunity!
