Single Reviews - One Small Step by Satellite State Reviewed by Steve Rudd

Zipping out of Guildford with their hearts on their sleeves and a bounce in their step, this quintet deserves to hit the big-time on the strength of this three-track single. One Small Step is moodily melodic from the off, an epic indie-pop-rock anthem for the masses. The good news is that Satellite State already have fans in the form of Steve Lamacq and Huw Stephens, so word is fast spreading about the talents of these five lads via the mediums of both Radio 1 and the Internet.

I don't regret a single word I said, croons front man Gary Nicks in One Small Step, just like you - the listener - won't regret diving for the Repeat Play button on your stereo as soon as the track's finished.

B-side, Clockworks is anchored by Ian Cooke's rock-steady bassline, while Will Gray's subtle piano melody compliments Gary's vocal range. As for the band's Carry Your Own Weight tune, it's a shimmering beauty to rival any of Snow Patrol's greatest hits. Indeed, Satellite State are masters of melody, crafting lush arrangements to attack the senses and dive directly for the jugular. Having already wowed crowds on a festival stage at Guilfest, it's hopefully only a matter of time before these five lads sign on the dotted line of a contract to die for.
