Where as Stay so long for so long shows off the nest's varied minimalist and eclectic instrumentation with aplomb as whispers of gossamer vocal are strung between keyboards and guitar. Lenny Does a good deed weaves a narrative as many folk numbers do but comes replete with a air blown melodica type doohickey which most folk numbers don't. A very mixed crowd tonight once again, with many being new to the Adelphi - great thing this being able to introduce so many new faces to a club with such a remarkable reputation- listened intently particularly during the gentler feathery numbers.

Some people were shocked and surprised, when I said I was putting The Rocky Nest on but I think they represent and recreate things that are intrinsic to music those being; having the courage of your convictions; not being swayed by popular opinion, and not being prized limpet like, away from your particular pebbly rock-pool.

Journeys End the sing along that, for awhile had the prestigious post of rounding out every Tuesday night down at the Sesh, brings The Rocky Nest songbook to a close resulting in applause from an appreciative crowd. Hayokee I first saw at the Sesh, they opened what was an exciting varied billing with spoken word, DJs playing house and techno and a scratching class from one of the cities leading turntablists. The Beverley based band Hayokee are currently expanding minds and traversing dimensions across Yorkshire with their highly addictive Tarob techno/metal fusion.

On stage the five-piece consisting of hurdy-gurdy, lead guitar, drums, bass, and didgeridoo produce an extraordinary sound, at times comes across eerie and exotic with Moroccan spice and charm weaving a way inside your head. At other times the music assaults with heavy guitar riffs, a sense of tribalism and a little more medieval in shape. The result is like a strange hybrid of east meets west, perhaps with roots in the 7th Century and the twelfth. A turbulent time of evolution; scholars of culture, calculus and architecture and religion, thirsty for the vast amounts of this singular knowledge emanating from the Islamic power houses of learning and spreading from Asia to Africa and into Western Europe.

Imagine you are one of those conquering warriors galloping across the plains of southern Spain entering the city of Cordoba resplendent with intricately carved temples. From within the shade of high orange stonework you hear the victorious sounds of triumph. Reveling around the tall arches of the great hall you may find Hayokee.

Hayokee the band name, sounds North American Indian akin perhaps to Cherokee. Pa-hay-okee is an Indian word for grassy waters, and also the name of a popular trail in the Everglades. With Eastern sounding titles such as last camel, and arid land you imagine the hurdy-gurdy tones wrapping around minarets where muezzin call for prayers. Yet within the sound and song titles there's bear dance.
