As tempted as he was to go over and speak to her, he held back, instead contemplating what it must have been like for her in the soul-destroying aftermath of John Lennon's murder. Facing up to such a shocking nightmare must have been murder in itself. Jesse realised as much, and so Aftermath was inspired in part by the human spirit's battle to cope in times of extreme emotional stress. Songs don't have to be long to be regarded as being epic in nature. Just about every one of Jesse's songs is an epic in its own right, and they all touch on the most universal themes that everybody can relate to.

Never had a ninety minute set flown by so fast, and never had I seen a crowd that didn't want the star attraction to leave the stage so much... even after his extended encore.

Five minutes after he'd exited stage left for the second time, some people were still clamouring for more, but it had struck 11 p.m. - and nobody could complain at the truly amazing show that we'd just witnessed. 'Unbelievable!' the guy in the crowd behind me gushed to his friends. 'That was unbelievable... the best show I've ever seen.' And he was far from the only person to think and say as much. Because it was. It really was.
