Move The Chair To The WHAT? On All FM
By Michelle Dee
|
|
The radio show that Mog and Paul Heaton present on Manchester based community
radio station All FM 96.9 has now got a name. As of last Thursday the popular
music show will be known as, Move The Chair To The WHAT? The explanation for
this title is better heard than written down so I'll leave it to Paul to
explain from whence it came.
|
|
|
Although, feeling the impulsiveness in the way the show is put together,
I shouldn't be surprised if they don't choose a different name, equally
obscure, for the show this week.
|
|
Last weeks show (25th January) was filled with music, mirth and The Monkey Sons.
The latter being a band that Paul had found on Myspace and decided to play
two of their tracks in the one show. The two D.J.s appear to have free rein
on what they play so spontaneity and organic are the watchwords.
The two tracks by The Monkey Sons
www.myspace.com/monkeysons
were Ha Ha
which was more party than The Klaxons which preceded it, and
Sunshine Day dedicated to two girls listening and dancing here in Hull.
The tunes that the two men play are the real stars of the show.
|
The second hour included a rather interesting demo that Mog and Paul had had
thrust into their hands by a local band the week before in the pub.
The name of this local group, I didn't quite catch; something Radio?
The track was I'll Never Love Again which had a crackly classical tone and
ended with a tape player sound that was reminiscent of the kind of records
Peely used to finish on.
|
|
|
The two are well aware of the pioneering spirit
embodied by John Peel, of course The Housemartins Paul's first band owe a lot
to him and his resolute way of championing new artists.
A few irregular features break up the songs and anecdotes including,
Good Intro Bad Song, this week featuring The Temptations.
|
|
Amongst other topics, including, snow and/or rain, apes, The View and duelling
pork sausages, Paul spoke of an up-coming live music festival.
This must see event is being being organized by tour manager Simon Foster,
Gaz Birtles, saxophonist from TBS and Ist, and Dave Stead TBS drummer.
Song 07 Festival, to be held during the last weekend in July, describes
itself as, "A weekend of quality music on three stages, camping, good food,
real ale, family fun, set in the lovely Honley Showgrounds deep in the heart
of West Yorkshire."
|
The full line up is still to be announced but the following artists have confirmed.
The Levellers, Waking The Witch, Sara Spade, Tobias Freuberg.
Also just confirmed, the wonderful Thea Gilmore, The Song Club and Irelands
leading lady of folk Eleanor McEvoy. More information and regular updates
about the festival, ticket info and weblinks to the featured artists can
be found at
www.myspace.com/song07festival
All that remains to be said now is to make sure you tune in this week
www.allfm.org
and Listen Online Thursday 7pm until 9 pm for more hilarity, more thought
provoking tunes and this week, Paul's special Top 20 feature - whether
this is a one off or a monthly thing I don't know, but it is bound to
throw up a few surprises-

Music News, Interviews - Interview with Jeff Caudill and Francis Garcia feat. I Was The Lead Singer EP (Allabout Records) Available from iTunes By Nick Quantril

It really shouldn't work; two former punk-pop stalwarts, Jeff Caudill and Francis Garcia,
choose to showcase their development into Americana singer-songwriters by covering songs
from each other's back catalogues.
As a way of laying the past to rest, it's certainly more inventive than most.
Former front-man of California based Gameface,
