Music Exchange By Jane Foster
|
Music Exchange if you're unlucky enough not to know already, is a monthly acoustic
music night held at the Tamworth Suite, Dorchester Hotel, Beverley Road.
Launched and also hosted by the talented and affable HarriWatts Band, it
features a wide range of acts from the acoustic genre.
Too often I find this type of live music gets pushed aside and drowned out by
ubiquitous 'indie' bands in Hull so I thought I'd give these type of events some publicity.
|
|
|
As well as providing a platform for local artists, Music Exchange has brought
talent from further afield. Past gigs have showcased the likes of Mas Y Mas,
The Doghouse Skiffle Band, and acclaimed guitarist Gareth Pearson.
And with tickets now £5 or less including a good plate of hearty food, you
can't argue with that.
Occasionally their monthly music offering also includes comedy acts.
Being also a comedy fan I went to one of their 'Music and Comedy Exchange'
events and was pretty impressed.
|
Achtung Schweinhund, made up of Gary Pullen (from the aforementioned Doghouse) and
Graham George Beck, produced an eclectic array of songs on keyboard and ukulele
with amusing banter in between; songs ranging from Jungle Rock to the Stranglers'
Golden Brown, with Gary sounding uncannily like Hugh Cornwell.
The other comedy/music act on the bill was Duncan Oakley, an amazingly
talented musician and comedian somewhat in the style of Bill Bailey in that
he is incredibly talented on various instruments and very, very funny.
|
|
|
I look forward to seeing him at the forthcoming Hull Comedy Festival - and
I'm pleased to hear that Music Exchange is also teaming up with the comedy
festival for another night of music and comedy at the Dorchester on Tuesday 6th November.
The next Music Exchange is on Thursday 27th September and features Ernest.

Music News, Biog - Lisa Lashes Biog.By Lisa Lashes
|
|
I grew up in a place called Holbrooks in Coventry with my mum, dad, 3 older sisters and 2 brothers; I am second from youngest. It's not always easy to live in such a big family, especially for my mum (!), but I'm lucky that they've always been ultra supportive with whatever I chose to do.
I went to John Shelton School in my early years and
