Poles...Apart on All FM 96.9 Week 5
By Michelle Dee

To those who have been following the show and this hopefully, useful maybe even entertaining, series on it, I send my humblest apologies.

Yes I am a little behind, so time to pull finger, and do something about it.
Previously I have reported that the show (Thursdays 7-9pm) on www.allfm.org was only to be broadcast for a limited number of weeks. Having now spoken to the producer, I am glad to announce that Mog and Paul Heaton will be on air for the foreseeable future.

The shows popularity has surged, enticing listeners from Eastern Europe, the States and further across the globe.
And it's never too late to tune in - if you're in the Manchester area to 96.9FM - or Listen online to hear what has got Paul and Mog excited in the last week.
I also said that the show steered away from the popular music press and flew its own flag, called it's own tune etc. However, you will have heard a steady flow of songs by bands featured in those hallowed tomes, bands such as Duke Special www.myspace.com/dukespecial and the track Last Night I Nearly Died taken from the album Songs From The Deep Forest.

They have recently confirmed Song O7 Festival www.myspace.com/song07festival along with Aberfeldy, The Proclaimers, Nick Harper, Seth Lakeman and Ben's Brother. (Watch thisisull.com for a full list of and links to all the confirmed acts and ticket info coming very soon).
Other bands that get a look in back in radio land tonight are The Enemy www.myspace.com/theenemycoventry - soon to be bigger than the last one that was going to be the next big thing ... and Hot Puppies www.myspace.com/thehotpuppies with a track called How Come You Don't Hold Me No More.

Another Ivor Cutler song I'm Happy got played this week, I'm surprised at how many people who I regard as knowledgeable have never heard of the genius poet and musician.
Other songs that caught the ear were Tell Your Friends by Beep Seals www.myspace.com/beepseals - look out for the stylee-phone sounding refrain towards the end, that bit's really good. Half Man Half Biscuit and the track When The Sun Goes Down also check out 24hr Garage People it's very good too.
Another track called Cha Cha Cha, this time by Jimmy Luxury and The Tommy Rome Orchestra www.myspace.com/jimmyluxurythetommyromeorchestra and Gabriel Minican with a great track called Train Wreck. There was a song called Galileo by Declan O' Rourke www.myspace.com/declanorourke that Paul described as the most romantic song of the last five years. Why not take a listen and see if you agree.

Amidst tenuous items on the links between chastity belts and locksmiths, a song called Solta O Frango was played by the band Bonde Do Role www.myspace.com/bondedorole .
The title literally means Release The Chickens, quite a scary proposition whilst DEFRA continue to find fault with the Bernard Mathews processing plant.
The last two artists I'd urge you to take a listen to are Manchester based Gabriel Minnikin ex-member of U.S. alt-country band The Guthries www.myspace.com/gabrielminnikin and a high kicking number called Train Wreck - I tells ya! Woah mamma jus' listen to that slide geetar, that there violin and banjo all wrapped up with a cavernous voice.

And to finish with look up twenty-two year old Chicago born David Vandervelde www.myspace.com/davidvandervelde and the critically acclaimed Wisdom From a Tree, then search out more of his acoustic loveliness.
Listen to the show online for more great tunes and witty repartee. www.allfm.org www.myspace.com/allfmfortherecord
